I couldn't find a Channel 5 discussion thread, so I started a new one.
I seen on Twitter earlier today that 'Eggheads' has been announced to start on Monday 4th October at 6.30pm. So, i'm guessing C5 have been given permission by Ofcom to move their 6.30pm news programme. Or would it not come in that quick?

I thought the BBC aired Eggheads. Did C5 get the rights to air it or something?

Yep, C5 bought the rights to air the show from the BBC. Still produced by 12 Yard (ITV Studios), still with Jeremy Vine at the helm and still with the same Egghead contestants.

Doesn't seem like Channel 5's Usual remit of Poverty Porn, Celebrities on Barges, Top 50 Lists, American Dramas, and really bad dramatised documentaries on Cher, ABBA, and Freddie Mercury.

Replace Poverty Porn with stuff about Yorkshire, and American Dramas with more stuff about Yorkshire.

Is it still half an hour then? Are they ditching a contestant?
Personally I've always thought Eggheads is everything such a show shouldn't be - it's panel has never been likeable and The Chase took the idea of taking on quiz champions and made it much more accessible and fun to watch.

Are they going back to the 90s? They used to have Whittle and 100% in the early days. It may have been a long time ago, but Channel 5 does actually have history with quizzes.
5 News are losing half an hour with this change. They requested Ofcom permission to extend the 5pm news to 1 hour but there is no sign of that starting on October 4th.
Also, BBC Two are continuing to air their afternoon Eggheads repeats when the C5 series starts.

It's still 30 minutes but with just 4 contestants. I hear that Chris may not be in it and there's a new Egghead.

With all due respect, that's harsh.
Although I hardly watch the show these days, I've never had serious problems with any of the 'heads themselves. Heck, I never even had any serious problems with CJ, even though many others couldn't stand him.
I certainly don't have any problems whatsoever with Lisa. Indeed - and this too is said with all due respect - anyone who considers a certain former GMB presenter's name a profanity only goes up in my estimation.

The reason they're able to do this is because they're already exceeding their required quota of news, so they're able to just do half an hour for a couple of weeks at least. But they wouldn't be able to do that full time.
Of course, Five are currently required to produce half an hour of news within Ofcom's definition of primetime (6-11pm)*, which is why we're in the current situation where they have two bulletins in rather quick succession. They're currently arguing that the viewing figures for the 6.30 bulletin illustrate the audience don't want it in that slot and they'd be better off doing an hour at five which may be out of primetime but gets a bigger audience.
* Of course, when ITV moved News at Ten to eleven in 1999, the teatime news moved to 6.30 to meet this requirement, so now they have two news bulletins within primetime which wasn't the case until twenty years ago.
