Indeed, I feel Sky News could be so much more bolder just with a proper studio in the newsroom. But they have paid lots for the box so they have to use it for at least ten years so save face!

I dont feel there was any justification to completely and totally change the channel from what it was. The only thing I can think is a financial one. If it wasnt making money then they pared everything back to a barebones operations with zero bells and whistles. White everything. Barely any design. Even the music was made bland to point of boring repetition. A basic office space, white paint on the walls is the newsroom. I mean they couldnt dress up the on camera parts of the news room. Its not even "decorated" or designed for tv. Just throw a desk down, pop up a couple of lights and plug in camera, completely ignoring the visual mess in the background. All of it seems so UN-SkyNews. Considering its heritage just a few years previous to the "current" Operating Theatre sterile look. The channel seems like a shadow of its former self. Sad.

Nearly every programme would start with that shot and end with it. It got a bit silly during the 'Live from Birmingham, this is Central Tonight with Bob Warman and Sarah Jane-Mee' era... The East programme from just next door had the same setup only slightly smaller and the shot was from the other side.

itele in France used to heavily feature their studio in intros and thankfully so. The only other intro which didn't feature it was for a radio simulcast (they used Europe 1's studio instead of their own) and the studio-less result was quite terrible.

Not quite the same but the ITV News Channel used to use a live shot overlooking their gallery for some of their out of break intros as shown on the clip below (skip to 14:50)

Ever since the current management were installed in 2006, they seem to have ever so gradually chipped away at the 'Sky News-ness' (if you like) of it all - ultimately leading to the glass box we have now. It would make a great meeting room, granted - but as a studio, it just doesn't quite work. It just doesn't have that '24 hour news channel'... vibe, if you will. And now with the current owners, it's gone all NBC - but blander. The journalism is as good as it's always been, though.
