5 News

Forgive me if I missed this happening if it was a while ago, as I don't often watch 5 News, but they seem to have changed their set. It looks better.

Makes it look as if they could only afford to rent out a desk for the first section of the programme. They shouldn't have spent all their money on archive footage for clip shows!

Unfortunately, it seems they are still using the cheesy '5 logo on the floor' ending shot from a camera in the lighting grid. :?

I preferred it when they'd use the desk to the side for a shot with the presenter sitting on the chair to camera, it all looks rather bare there.

In my view, the look of 5 News is the weakest look in all of UK news currently, and it needs a major overhaul badly. Evevn GB News currently looks a little bit better than 5 News.

I think it'd be better if they rotated the desk and moved it closer to the screen, a bit like this:

I do like the idea of incorporating the channel's logo into the set design and I also like the graphics.

I'd say ITV is the worst, very blocky, empty and rather forgettable.

How has it changed exactly? I can’t see anything different myself (though I agree that it’s odd that the desk is removed when they’re looking at the screen.

Edit: here’s a video for comparison from 2018:

As Fanoftv has said, I can't see any difference?

I don't think anything is removed, they're just using a different shot with the camera more towards the corner of the set which means the desk is out of shot.

Just me that likes the 5-shaped desk then?

Shame that 5 News has lost its way given the impact it once had. I don’t really know who would watch it and why these days.

Nothing's changed (that I can see, there may have been one or two tiny tweaks) - I believe the set is the same as when it launched.

Unfortunately the colour palette Ch5 News uses is that of a light chat program or entertainment show rather than a serious news programme. Never really liked that about this current look. They had a great launch look that should have have been kept and modernized for 2021 rather than doing what everyone else is doing. It was their point of difference. By dumping it they got inline behind the other channels and virtually has disappeared.

Yes, I didn't think anything had changed either. Who is the main presenter now - didn't Sian Williams leave?

No, she’s still the main presenter and was presenting tonight.

Once a week they present from another city, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle featured so far, these editions are presented by Peter Lane.

I've always thought that the 6.30pm 5 News should be replaced by a UK version of The Project which has running in Australia for over a decade and has a New Zealand version.

Channel 5 have applied to Ofcom to change their news to a single hour at 5pm with a short bulletin in the evening:

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations-a...-channel-5

I presume they will then move Neighbours to 6pm and Home And Away to 6.30pm.
