CNN
Been nice this week they've done extra Hala on Monday and extra Quest today and yesterday.

Marketplace Middle East is launching soon. This is on top of Marketplace Africa which already airs. I'm pleased to see Nina dos Santos getting a show back. They are all monthly shows.

Hopefully they actually delve into issues rather than just coming across as sponsored shows which sometimes these types of programmes do.

I do note however that the times they air means First Move will be cut back by 15 mins, similar to how QMB sometimes is these days. Why couldn't they cut it into one of the New Day hours instead so we aren't losing international news time?

I still wish they'd give Nina and Kristi daily shows again, instead of New Day simulcasting.
I see this reporting has come out today which has suggested that CNN has warned Chris Cuomo about his participation in calls about how to defend his brother from sexual harassment claims.

Chris Cuomo is really giving a masterclass in how to lose your credibility quickly.

I don’t watch the show, I don’t/can’t watch Cuomo and never have but I can (sort of) understand why he did this.
If it were a member of my family that needed advice and if I had the necessary experience and know how to be able to help, I would.
My career would come second to my family. If Cuomo is not involved in and doesn’t influence the coverage of his brother, then it is possible to separate the professional and the private.
Just my opinion!
Chris Cuomo apologised on air last night:

Giving brotherly advice is not the problem. Chris Cuomo participated in strategy calls with his brother's communications team. That crosses a line. You're either a journalist or working for the government but not both.
Plus he covered him when things were rosy, turning him into a ''hero'' but when %%%% hit the fan he was suddenly an objective ''journalist''.

The guy is a joke, with an extremely big ego, and everything he does looks fake, including that apology.
I think this is a problem CNN is going to have more and more especially with the terrible two in Cuomo and Lemon. When you start making the station all about them you open yourself up to huge risks. This wasn't a problem in the past as such because it was the standard of journalism that backed CNN up. But now it's a lot more about personalities. These two are very much self-publicists. While others may have egos and dabble in promoting themselves and their other projects, Cuomo and Lemon take the biscuit.

It will end up in tears with one or both of them.
Like, none of these are anything close to things Fox News personalities do on the regular, and they continue to get away with it. So, why do you think anything is going happen?

Even that apology isn't particularly great - he seems to give off the impression there that he's tried to not cover his brother and would never do so yet we all very much remember him having his brother on multiple times and giving him softball interviews - comedy gigantic earbuds and all. That was a blatant conflict of interest and CNN & Chris decided to look the other way so they deserve the heavy criticism they'll get.

Aside from this whole saga too, I don't think Chris Cuomo is a particularly great presenter. He comes across on screen as self-important and slightly smarmy and the fact the original New Day line-up was so brief (and that CNN moved Boulduan not Cuomo) doesn't suggest great things about what he's like off-screen either.

We may criticise the likes of Blitzer, Tapper and Cooper but on the whole they do largely behave like professional news broadcasters - whereas Lemon & Cuomo act like they are the news. I am slightly surprised CNN didn't put Briana Keilar on primetime in the place of one of them in the recent reshuffle - she's far better than both, it'd be another female presenter in primetime and seems to toe the line between opinionated and polished & professional far better.

Also maybe it's just me but Brian Stelter seems another who likes to big up his part - I always find his delivery overly dramatic.

Because there's a difference. Fox News is Fox News and their presenters can and do get away with stuff that other broadcasters can't get away with. Those that watch CNN (especially those that have been watching for years) have different expectations of their presenters. Even at corporate culture level over the years, CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN have beaten themselves up over events that would hardly be noticed on Fox News.

I don't think anything is going to happen this time, but it seems to be happening more and more often with these two. They're making statements and pointing out behaviour in others, it's commentary which they try to disguise as journalism. You need to have a very clean bib in American left-leaning journalism to get away with it forever.

Cuomo now seems to be saying sorry about something every few months. Logically if the pattern continues sorry won't be enough some day.

This is exactly the point, when Blitzer, Tapper and Cooper are on, it feels like they're reporting the news, that they're trying to get the facts across, even if their own opinion does slide in more often than it should.

When Lemon and Cuomo are on, they are the news. After all the viewers only watch CNN because of their handover each night (this is what they claim themselves) I turned them off months ago because I couldn't be listening to which had a bigger boat, or how Don Lemon's Book was going to save the world.

Which begs the question, why do we not hold all broadcasters to the same standards? Why are Fox News allowed to get away with stuff that would end the career of a CNN journalist? Why are BBC journalists held to a standard that the rest just aren't? Same standards for everyone.

You're 100% right, all broadcasters should be held to the same standards, but sadly in the real world, that's just not the case. To be fair Ofcom does have standards and that's probably the main reason Fox News isn't in the UK. The reason was given at the time it was pulled was viewership but in reality, it was generating too much heat for Murdoch.

In America you can basically do what you want, it's corporate responsibility that keeps broadcasters in check. Some of that has been lacking recently when it comes to CNN.

A lot of the stuff that modern Journalists do would have gotten me fired when I started out in the '90s. I walked away from that profession years ago as I'm too soft, but friends that have been at it for decades are genuinely shocked by what passes for quality journalism today.
Not to mention that CNN and its many talking heads, mostly Stelter, made a career of calling out Fox News and their stars for the stuff they say and do. Some of them are borderline obsessed with Fox, at the same time ignoring the fact some of their own are not much better than the likes of Tucker or Hannity.

FOX primetime stars at least don't pretend to be journalists and don't have the Cuomo holier-than-thou attitude. They also can take a joke and don't seem to be taking themselves that seriously, unlike saint Cuomo.
