Lions Rugby Tour on Channel Four

Live coverage of The British & Irish Lions will return to terrestrial television for the first time in nearly 30 years with Channel 4’s broadcast of the Vodafone Lions 1888 Cup against Japan.

In addition to live coverage of the pre-Tour Test match against Japan from BT Murrayfield on 26 June, Channel 4 will also show highlights of all three Tests against South Africa.

This will be the first time the Lions have been on terrestrial television since the 1993 Tour of New Zealand and highlights of all Castle Lager Lions Series Tour matches will be shown on All4.

Good news for Channel 4 and good to see the Lions on Free to Air TV for the first time Live in my lifetime, question is while Lee McKenzie will host will Channel 4 have their own commentary for the test series or will they use Sky Sports commentary as Miles Harrison will more than likely be on Sky and is closely associated with Channel 4 European Champions Cup coverage.

The only other lead commentators Channel 4 have used was Ryle Nugent formally of RTE Sport when Miles Harrison was covering England matches for Sky and Eddie Butler for the summer internationals they first covered rugby in 2018.

Good news. Highlights of other games on All4 too.

Be interesting to see what happens with the summer games with games now at home. C4 only mention Ireland's autumn games so those rights likely going elsewhere.

Would think Eddie Butler may be the commentator, but depends if the BBC are covering, live or highlights, the England summer tests v Canada and the USA. Maybe Ally Eakin of BT Sport, or Martin Gillingham, who has commentated on a famous South Africa match before; when Japan beat South Africa in the 2015 Rugby World Cup!

Can't answer for Sky, but this from Nick Heath, who it appears will be a reporter for talkSPORT, suggests he will be in South Africa at least. Possibly limited on site precence like reporters only I'd guess.
