In my view, it's all about consistency.

If you're presenting a news programme and you wouldn't have referred to Gordon Brown as simply 'Gordon' or to Theresa May as simply 'Theresa' on air, then you shouldn't be referring to Boris Johnson as simply 'Boris'.

It really is as simple as that for me.

I think the issue is that some see calling the PM ‘Boris’ rather plays up to an image of him as a loveable, daft chum, which arguably benefits his appeal. In contrast, I don’t think ‘Maggie’ was ever used in a particularly positive way.

plus there are some on TV calling him "Boris". I am yet to find a TV clip where Thatcher was called "Maggie", by an interviewee or newscaster - from what I've seen it was always "The Prime Minister" or "Mrs Thatcher".

This is true, but remember 40 years ago, there was much more 'formality' with language (On and off of the screen)
Everybody was referred to as Mr, Mrs, Sir, Lord, etc etc,

(For the record, I'm certainly not arguing for the case for Mr Johnson to be called Boris)

Doubtful that he'd mention it on Loose Men, surely.
Tomorrow's Loose Men was filmed last week apparently. (There are clips from it in the trailers too)

I would have thought that it would have been live. I guess that rules out him announcing his GMB stint tomorrow

I bet that he'll be back over July and August with Sean, Alex and possibly Adil (with Adil now being the De Facto "Main Presenter" after Piers' departure, I think that he may want to take the August Holidays off)

I'm also surprised that they haven't been trailing any other faces on GMB. I would have though that there would have been some more faces trailed as well (Richard Madeley, Judge Rinder, Eamonn, Andi Peters, and others)

I’d say people in the public eye tend to get referred to by whichever of their first name or surname is most distinctive. ‘Boris’ is more distinctive than ‘Johnson’, whereas ‘Cameron’ is more distinctive than ‘David’. David is a terribly bland name

I think it's a male thing to refer to someone by their surname, you rarely see women referred to by their surname unless they're in politics.

Boris Johnson has been referred to as Boris since way before he entered No10, both as London mayor and even further back when he first appeared on HIGNFY.

I think ben will be off GMB for the whole month with Adil being lined up for June too so I wouldn't be surprised if Richard does Monday to Wednesday and Adil does Thursday and Friday

Ben doesn't finish filming Tipping Point until July so I suspect we won't see him until late July or early August. Adil will be filming his last block of Lingo that month as well although that'll only take a week or two.

I thought they might have tried a few more different names out by now. With the exception of Alastair Campbell, it’s just been Adil and now seemingly Richard. Suggests to me they either know who they want for GMB or are perhaps happy for September to roll in with guest presenters.

If they did come September give Ben Mon-Wed, there would be little need to fill Ben’s role as main host, Kate could do Thursday with Susanna, Charlotte on Friday with Kate and give Sean newsreader role Thurs & Fri, or of course Sean as main host with Kate on Friday.

I’m hoping over summer a few unfamiliar faces may crop up, even just as nothing more than a stand in/guest host.
