8 supposedly in this run & 3 specials 'later in the year'. There should be general public versions of Take Your Pick & Play Your Cards Right to come but that would take this run to more than 8.

The press release says this series of 8 will conclude with a celebrity edition. I would guess The Price is Right and the two editions you mention being two of the three being held back.

The press release states the series of 8 concludes with “another” celebrity special. We had one yesterday and another due next week, so seems they’ve lost faith in the show & are putting out the (previously due to be) head back celebrity specials?

It sounds like the plan back when that press release was put out was to run 8 episodes as a series this Spring (with celebrity specials as the first and last episodes) with 3 specials (presumably all celebrity?) later in the year.

But with celebrity shows this week and next the plan has clearly changed a bit. Not sure that is anything to do with them “losing faith” in the show, I suspect it’s more that the plans have probably changed several times as it seems pretty clear that this series was filmed and then turned around in the edit very quickly to be able to TX when it has. From what gottago said they kept ordering more episodes as their plans constantly changed so the whole thing was probably in a state of flux. It might well be that more than 8 episodes now go out in the series this Spring with some of the specials being brought forward (I assume one of the specials will be a Christmas edition so not that one!).

But I think it’s more of a reflection of how ITV have had to change a lot of plans quickly rather than anything to do with faith in the show, which, whilst down on the first series (not a surprise given the lift in lockdown restrictions) has still been rating fairly well.

Take Your Pick is still in the titles so hopefully it happens - along with Strike It Lucky I thought they were the two strongest last year, arguably because both actually have wafer thin formats which work to Alan's "chatty man" strengths.

I've just had a thought - maybe they want to get the pandemic-filmed programmes out before the end of June/July (when social distancing is set to end), so they can go back to audiences and get rid of the need for screens and such in the studio for the Christmas special, also get them out before or just after social distancing ends so it's not as obvious it was filmed in the pandemic, or perhaps to not remind the viewer of what it was like? Weak argument I know, but that's what my neurons have come up with.

I wonder if they were planning to show the other celebrity episode of Beat the Chasers in the Spring then decided to move to later in the year? Losing Moneyball didn't help matters either.

Seems possible. Do wonder if Epic Gameshow would be on air at all right now if they hadn’t lost Moneyball. I had assumed the original plan was for Moneyball and Game of Talents on Saturdays this Spring, Epic Gameshow wasn’t in ITV’s Spring press pack.

That seems possible, although I think there are some other shows with Christmas specials already filmed, so there will definitely be at least some pandemic content on this Christmas.

The most obvious example is The Voice Kids, which is airing over Christmas this year, yet was all filmed back in February & March, complete with virtual audience and social distancing. Runs the risk of having aged quite badly by the time it airs.

Can I quickly ask what's happened with Moneyball? I heard they'd comissioned it but this is the first time I've heard them losing it.

The machine used to shoot the ball broke down when they tried to use it during filming so it got pushed back to later in the year.

With there only being 3 more weeks of ICSYV over on BBC One, I suppose it’s possible with the time slot switch with Game of Talents, that ITV felt Celebrity episodes of Epic would hold up better.

I agree I was a bit harsh earlier suggesting they’d lost faith. It’s done decent numbers, but I think all 3 ITV Saturday Night shows on currently would probably benefit being apart of stronger lineups...

The last episode of Epic Gameshow (week after next) is a celeb special of Strike It Lucky. So the general public versions of Take Your Pick & Play Your Cards Right are not airing this time around.

Must be coming later in the year then as they were filmed and are listed in the series overview. Strange to hold back civilian episodes to air as specials rather than celebrity episodes.

I wonder if they're planning to film more episodes as it would be odd to have two civilian editions on their own.

I was thinking that, as agree it would be odd to just have two civilian episodes on their own (there’s a third leftover episode as well although I’m not sure which gameshow that is, and I wonder if it’s a Christmas special).
