I noticed that too on the west edition but I’m guessing seeing as a tesco lorry crashed into a railway bridge in Plymouth which cause Totnes to PLYMOUTH having a reduced services I guess they didn’t feel a gwr sponsorship would be appropriate until the lines fully back up and working?!

It's long been standard practice that the GWR sponsorship is dropped in either/both sub-regions if there has been a news story about train services etc, with the sponsorless stings occupying the same number of seconds of airtime.

Anyone know what's happened to David Garmston? He's not been on Points West for weeks and he's not presenting Politics West this weekend either.

Anyone know what's happened to David Garmston? He's not been on Points West for weeks and he's not presenting Politics West this weekend either.

A couple of weeks ago, the lunch time Points West bulletin captioned David Garmston but a completely different person read the news, he was quite professional at reading the autoque, but was not dressed for presentation (blue fleece).

I don't know who it was but it looked a little like BBC middle eastern correspondent Kevin Connolly.

I thought it was a bit odd at the time and David hasn't been on since.

And they sent their Bristol based correspondent Rob Murphy to cover the story tonight rather than use an ITV Meridian reporter. He also featured on the SW bulletin on the premise that passengers from Devon and Cornwall would have used the trains affected.

The crash has effectively severed the rail line between Waterloo and Exeter (and therefore many stations in Dorset and East Devon), and also the line between Waterloo and Frome and Bristol. It's caused problems in all three TV regions
