At the moment while maybe not much on radio his music is still been played I heard ignition been played in a shop the other day and of course Space Jam has been shown on ITV2 a few times this complete with I believe I can fly still there at the end so think this is very much a see what happens situation. Not sure if lost prophets performed that much that could just be a slight edit if necessary with them just been mentioned in the chart rundown. Presenter wise none of Jamie Theakston Kate Thornton Zoe Ball Jayne Middlemiss Gail Porter Lisa Snowdon Sara Cox Richard Blackwood Sarah Cawood Richard Bacon Liz Bonnin Edith Bowman Fearne Cotton Colin Murray or Reggie Yates or Rufus Hound if you go up to the final year will be any problem so if and when it gets to the final 9 years very few episodes should be missed and I would think be slightly easier to edit performances out providing they were not number 1 that week.

It's a weird one with R. Kelly. Even allowing for more lax attitudes, it's perhaps surprising to an extent that TOTP even chose to play him by 2003, as his actions had been out in the public domain for a while and were the very reason why he couldn't perform - on at least one of the editions where he was number one, they briefly alluded to him not being allowed out of the US, and had him record an introduction.

IIRC the brief mention of 'Bump ‘N’ Grind's January 1995 exclusive performance by Bjork wasn't edited out during last years 25/12/1995 repeat, as well as a video clip of the number one he penned for Michael Jackson. Having said that, no guilty verdict's been given as of yet in his trial, and that probably counts for something in terms of the BBC's current stance on playing his output.

Not sure if lost prophets performed that much that could just be a slight edit if necessary with them just been mentioned in the chart rundown.

ISTR the Lostprophets were featured particularly frequently after the 2003 revamp had occurred, and did a couple of open-air exclusive performances outside of TVC. I suspect these were duly hyped up in other parts of the shows, so some of their appearances and mentions in trails + news features may well be too tricky to edit around.

in that case then you could be right them episodes could well be lost. I think the blue and orange boxed logo era under Cowie should be mostly unaffected though and that is the era I grow up with although did watch some of the era before that. I think this is why Top of the pops 2 is still needed so some of the performances from editions which can’t be shown in full due to presenters or certain other performers can still get show. The Andi Peters era I never seen much of I only started watching again really for the final year of it when it got moved to BBC Two and I think them final few months where the strongest it had been in years no gimmicks or pointless features just the performers that week with one archive video and the chart rundown like it was meant to be.

that brings back memories music live I can remember watching quite a bit of that back when the BBC used to make an effort on bank Holidays. I think I agree though it likely the music live edition will likely be skipped if the repeats do get that far as I think some of the performances where shown later on during the main music live program.

Not that he's in that category, but a reference to Mike Smith winning a Variety Club award was kept in a 1987 edition, whereas his namechecks as (one of) next week's host(s) were snipped out.

Slightly off-topic, but Channel 5's treatment of R Kelly in their recent series - a very brief snippet of the track in question, presented without commentary, then moving swiftly on - was ample.

Granted, this approach isn't really possible for TOTP.

I'm not sure they've ever been particularly consistent with that - of course mere weeks before 25/12/1995 was repeated, an entire Lisa Stansfield video clip was dropped from one of the May 1990 shows to remove Nicky Campbell's tenuous reference to Cyril Smith in his intro link.

Conversely some mentions and even occasional on-screen appearances of Jonathan King have stayed intact, but others have still been removed; DLT likewise. I remember one link during a Spring 1982 edition was shortened considerably thanks to the host making mention of the upcoming track being a favorite of his.
