This Time with Alan Partridge

If anyone’s given up on this, I really suggest you watch the most recent episode. Best one so far in my opinion, and I’m really enjoying series 2 a lot more than series 1. Best bit in each episode though is definitely Alan’s segment shot on location (like the SAS one in the most recent episode).

Agreed - the episode just aired (ep3) was the best of both series so far- really felt it had found its groove and a real mix of the Partridge oeuvre (I’d say the formula is roughly 35% KMKY; 35% Alan’s Sky docos; 15% MMM; 15% I’m Alan Partridge). Ep2 was strong also

Also that ride in the Spitfire looked like that it really was Coogan. I imagine it was possibly the same real life indulgence for Coogan, as the fictional one for Partridge! (I'm partly jealous)

An old broadcaster friend of mine, said the protest and the chaotic nature of it on 'This Time', reminded him of the live edition of Saturday Night at the Mill, where the Musicians Union, organsised a strike and protested outside the windows on Studio C, which led the the more millitant fringe, gaining access to the studio.
That has protesters being chased across the studio by security and whip-pans as the cameras tried to avoid them getting in shot - just like the protest was shown in that episode. He also said the fast cut to the first protester sans--bra, wouldn't have happened on a live show, as the director would have seen the invaders on the monitor stack in the gallery, and cut to a close up shot of the one of the presenters. However, it's not real, and they had to show that to set the next few minutes up for the viewer. He was also pleased that they didn't go down the road of Partridge ended up sitting on one of the protesters to shut her up, a la Nick Whitchell on the Six.

I was wondering, as I have only watched the odd clip of the show, does the programme ever touch on the pandemic, Covid etc, or does the programme exist on a different time line? Meaning it is not set in 2021 of the present day? Thanks.

Thanks.According to the interview with the creators and stars posted earlier in the thread, it's not got any covid references and exists in a non covid world. However the audience are sitting quite far apart, though whether that's just to make production easier or actually how they're meant to be sitting in the programme hasn't been made clear.

Knowing Me Knowing You had lots of bits based on actual things from chat shows - Vivian Westwood and the precocious posh clever child on Wogan and Russell Harty doing an episode from his house for example. It's probably a bit picky of me to say so, but the one thing that keeps bugsgingme about This Time is the amount of editing. Given that the whole point is to be a parody of a live TV magazine show, I find it very distracting when the camera unrealistically cuts away to a high shot or when you can see that the characters aren't in the same position between cuts. There also times when the (in-universe) gallery manages to cut away just at the right moment, e.g. to catch a reaction from Simon, which just couldn't happen.
Just seems a bit of a shame when they make the off-air shots look so realistic - unframed, out of focus, rustling mics and so on. Also Lynne's clearly miced up but I'll let them have that one 8-) Oh, and one other thing - they would never have left a clear uncensored F-word in a VT like they did a couple of weeks back! Edit: just saw the bit where the old lady's superimposed younger face reappears after a camera cut and then quickly disappears. Genius.
