For me, the Sport logo is coming up in Helvetica.

On the BBC Sport test website some aspects of the page (Article images and Reith font) don’t load fully for some reason.

The sub-menus for Travel, WorkLife and Culture look amazing (especially on mobile) such an improvement over the current news and sport ones.

These usually have a smaller amount of sub-sections/pages - and not too deep a level structure

The thing about minimalist design is that it either has to be done really well or it just looks some combination of incomplete, cheap or basic.

I note that if you mouse-over the items in the top menu - News, Sport, Weather etc - you don't get the coloured bar underneath, instead a black bar. Which is odd, as it looked like the established colours were to take more of a front seat.

It could just be during the test phase, that "chameleon" leak mentioned they may implement the icons here, so that may still appear before launch

There's a short film from 1996 where Martin Lambie-Nairn talks about rebranding the BBC, at around 6:08 you can already see the logos for the channels and brands, including an early BBC News logo where "NEWS" isn't all caps. And at around 7:48 you'll also find an early version of the 1997 BBC Two "Car" ident where the "BBC TWO" logo is already there and the ident isn't zoomed in (in the final package the idents were zoomed in presumably because they were modified for widescreen so they cropped the widescreen versions to 4:3). The "BBC TWO" logo also appears to be a bit bigger than in the final 1997 package.

I think this is the earliest appearance of the 1997 logo and the channel/brand logos i've seen so far.

Well this is peak TV (live) Forum. A small nugget of information that's about as generic as it gets and people go crazy.
Heaven only knows what'll happen when anything official comes out... six million pages in 20 minutes.

Assume that rebranding is official, there will be millions around the world that will flock to TV Live Forum to discuss about the "hot-topic" BBC rebrand, many of them will bashing the BBC about their new ident and will be post the critical opinion in Daily Mail or Express. It was never happened in 1997 when internet was in early stage and web forums and social media was not existent. The people only know the BBC rebrand on newspapers, where the access were almost restricted to those living in the UK.

Web forums did exist in 1997. Just not on the "web" bit. Usenet was the forum of its day back then.
The internet as I've mentioned before has been around in one form or another since the 1960s, its modern form in the 1980s and then Freeserve came along in 1998 to revolutionise internet access.

Yes, absolutely. I remember anticipating the new logo. I hadn’t read anywhere about the new BBC 1 idents being based on a balloon but the logo itself could be found easily before it launched. The circles idents were much less of a surprise as the. BBC released a video of them online beforehand.

I think the one thing that stands out for me from seeing the new logo on these pages is that there is an uneven amount of black either side of the Bs - too much on the right - so they don't look centred.

Technically the widest part of the B - the lower half- is centred, but that doesn't account for the narrower upper half - so could do with being shifted slightly to the right for best visuals.

Just my tuppence worth.
