I’m not sure why Myrie doing Mastermind would preclude him from the Marr programme? I suspect he’s also on a list of BBC journalists they’d ideally like to find a new regular role for within BBC News too.

Having given it some thought, if the BBC opens it up to external candidates, Krishna’s Guru-Murthy would be an excellent choice. A smart and seasoned interviewer, affable and warm presentation, blends news, current affairs and culture very well and can be quite funny. He’d also suit a range of TV and radio roles to go alongside it, as demonstrated by his semi-regular appearances of late on 5 Live.

What I meant was that it was only 8 months ago he got the gig so to be thrown another huge role so soon just seems a little unlikely.

A lot of very middle class suggestions which, whilst probably not too far off the mark, would present a missed opportunity to revitalise the show. I always find the arts bits boring and would rather the show was just politics. I want politicians held to account, not chummy intellectual chats.

These shows have always had differences in shade - can't see it changing.

The arts and culture bit is so they can have a break from the politics. I personally enjoy the arts section but I understand that some people don't.

It's a bit like BBC Breakfast and GMB, I'm sure political and news junkies would love it be just news and politics but having lighter segments and interviews helps balance the programme and I'm sure that's true for Andrew Marr as well.

I also don’t think it will be anyone mentioned on this thread and will be someone unexpected. I don’t think anyone guessed Fiona Bruce would get QT (who has done well on the show)?

No, but that was very much a marriage of convenience because his TV-am show was coming to an end with their franchise, so he simply took the whole thing lock, stock and barrel to the Beeb.

I'd love it to be Zeinab, have been a fan since the ITN Morning News launched. She is also on the Guardian's shortlist. which lists 6 women and only 4 men.

I'm sure she'd do a good job, but she seems to be on the Guardian's shortlist because as a previous presenter of the show "she will be familiar to Marr's audience" - when she presented it once, thirteen years ago.

I do find these newspaper shortlists fairly useless, especially when they're just picking names out of the Radio Times. The classic was when Jonathan Ross left the Beeb and the Guardian's shortlist for the replacement of his chat show included Harry Hill - imagine that, turning down Tom Cruise in favour of Wendy Craig and Schnorbitz.

Yes. In fact you could almost say the present show started life on TV-am. I can’t remember the details but for a while in 1993, the BBC programme received a repeat showing later in the morning on Sky News?

Yes, it was. I think that was a legacy of his TV-am show being repeated on BSB.

It's been announced that beginning January 9th, Sophie Raworth will present a program temporarily titled 'Sunday Morning' in place of The Andrew Marr Show. Raworth will present the program until a permanent presenter is found at which time the program will relaunch with a new name, look and presenter.

Not sure they should have announced this interim programme like this. Better to have just let it appear on air with no pre-publicity as the wording is a bit disrespectful to Sophie if she ends up not being the permanent presenter.

Might have made sense to just brand it under the Politics Live umbrella and even get Jo Coburn to do it, rather than someone who has never really done this sort of thing, though will be perfectly adequate
