Launch New BBC Sport Graphics

Spotted from BBC's highlights of England v Austria:

Part of me thought the only way that the logo would be large enough to see the letters would be if the logo wasn't within a box, and sure enough, the logo is yellow and naked.
I assume this will be used on next season's MOTD highlights, with the obvious colour changes for the playing teams (and I think the core dividing bar is a EURO colour, so that may be changed for domestic football), just need to see how the timer will be implemented when this graphic is used live.

It looks awfully unbalanced at the bottom, probably doesn’t help that 3 of the teams have short names and Northern Ireland is much longer

I’m also not sure in general about the channel names just saying ONE, TWO etc in black. I think I’d prefer a coloured box!

Still doesn't bother me.
Think of it this way: The channel name is white on picture promos. So this is just how it will look on Sport. You'll get used to it.

Purple would make sense for MOTD as that's the colour of the Premier League logo.

I think the scorebar is nice, although not sure about the implementation of the BBC logo. For me it highlights the weakness of this package. The scorebar doesn’t feel connected to the wider package and I think that’s due to the package not having many simple elements that work well in things like scorebars. I see some nice things about the package and see what they were trying to go for but the execution just feels a bit off and not very focused.

I caught the end of some of the cricket highlights yesterday and the lower third programme promotion just looked so much slicker than what’s replacing it.

Similar thoughts here. There are some nice elements, and I like the idea of the top gradient incorporating the colours of the event.

However, it's not as cohesive as the outgoing package, which was a very high watermark, and therefore feels like a retrograde step and a sub-par tribute act.

A subtle refresh of the previous package (retaining layouts and animations; tweaking colour schemes) would have been preferable.

I’m slightly surprised to see that the new graphics are being used on today’s live cricket coverage (on BBC Two right now) - I guess that we will therefore see the ‘in-game’ package for cricket during the action, rather than just name astons and full-screen graphics.

I am still really not convinced by this set.

Re: the cricket scoreboard, it's kind of underwhelming that they just seemingly rehashed the previous version along with the vertical shadows, especially when the new package does not feature them anymore (so far anyway; see example below). The animations of the scoreboard are the same, too.


I was expecting something that included the slight vertical gaps as seen from the football package.

This, in my opinion, is the worst part of the rebrand.

I personally am not a fan of the implementation of the transparent edges, and the above image demonstrates this particular weakness of the graphics.

That just doesn't look in keeping with the overall look at all.  This feels like a rare dud set from BBC Sport.

To go against the grain, I think the scoreboard graphic looks pretty good:

It's red for England and dark blue for India in this case. I imagine the highlights would be yellow as a default though. Maybe it would look better if the team colors are on the gradient at top? Just a thought.

Overall, I think that the cricket scorebar (and the football one too to some extent) are the weakest elements of the refresh so far.

The bbc logo was in a yellow box for the scoreboard but the scoreboard used on the euros was a boxless bbc logo .
