GB News - prelaunch
Interview with Andrew Neil in today's Evening Standard

https://www.standard.co.uk/insider/andre...39419.html
When Andrew said that ITV were paying Piers to do "nothing", it has been stated that Piers contract for GMB is still running, and ITV are still paying him his GMB salary, even for not appearing on the programme. Now, I don't know how long his GMB contract has left to run, but as Andrew said, the reason why Piers is not part of the launch, is down to Piers contract with ITV still continuing, forcing Andrew and GB News to not approach him just yet.
"Piers is not amongst the launch" - a perfect way for Andrew to say that he could be part of GB News later in the year.

Well, his contract will run until the end of 2021. So look forward to see him at 7pm on GB News next year as someone suggested here.

It would be madness for GB News not to employ P.M
I think Piers not joining GB News at launch is actually a good thing for Piers, as he will have the opportunity to watch GB News launch, see how it looks on screen, and wait and see if the channel is a success or not.

If GB News suddenly becomes a huge success, then hiring Piers would be a PR success for GB News, on the other hand if GB News tanks in the ratings and looks set to fail, hiring Piers Morgan to come in, will make it look like they need a saviour to increase ratings. This was the scenario GMB had back in 2015, when Piers arrival increased ratings of GMB, which since it launched in 2014 had been a failure for ITV.
I am surprised no one has talked about this: the i newspaper has presented today a sneak peek of the GB News studio in Paddington; sadly, the ugly brown sofas will be used on-air...

It almost looks like a Big Brother's Bit on the Side set.

I don't hate it!

I would have thought an exclusive interview with a senior minister or even the PM would be likely for the launch.

Neil’s already ruled this out in the Evening Standard piece linked to a few posts back:

Quote:They have actually decided against launching with a big interview, “because then the story becomes the interview and I would much rather the story becomes the channel, we will get to the interview”. “Times Radio launched with a big interview with Boris Johnson. We’ve decided not to go down that route.”

Thanks to this pic, as well as all the preview videos and some caps related to the studio (including one from the i newspaper), I made a rough reconstruction of how the GB News graphics might look like:

Apparently those photos were taken yesterday (there are way more on the PA Images website) which doesn't bode well! Looks very "half-finished" to me.
It looks like they've gone down the Local TV route of not buying sofas that are customised for studio use. They look quite low down and the depth should be shorter.
Looks like a sofa they found in a skip that DFS couldn't even give away in their never ending sale.
It's a bit too informal for my liking.

I just dread empty spaces or it looking like it isn't complete......

Is the aircon unit going to be wild-card regular guest?
