Being 50 feet up on top of a transmitter on a hill won't change your visual distance very much, just the range of the signal.

You might just be able to see both the east and west coast of the UK from an aeroplane at 35,000 feet on a very clear day, if you were able to swap seats or crawl over other passengers to look out of a window on the other side. Big Grin

Yes according to the horizon calculator I just looked at from the top of Emley Moor the horizon is 39 miles away

Yes, sounds about right. That assumes no obstruction to that view. The hill that Holme Moss sits on is the same height as the top of Emley's mast, so everything the other side of it is obscured.

If it wasn't Emley's signal would storm into Lancashire (which it doesn't!) Only a dribble arrives, due to a small level of defraction
