Also depends on your council area - have heard examples of where council building control officers won't sign off on a building's safety plan if it does have a two stage alarm.
They're keen on a full alarm and certainly don't want to be seen on signing off given how scrutinised fire safety has become in recent years. That's where you start to build in fire walls and zone the alarm system to keep the council happy, and ensure the staff toaster is kept in the non-studio part.

Regardless of two stage (Actually in BBC NBH it's three stage in each zone!) or not, the fact that the alarms were already going off, plus the presenter went straight into the "technical difficulties" spiel, plus the Gallery were ready on the button to do the London handback - all points to the fact that the alarm was audibly sounding before she was cut back in vision. If it had started just as the package ended, she would have been taken by surprise, fumbled over her words, maybe even started reading a few words of the next cue.
At the point the alarm goes off, you leave. If that means a frozen image and silence at the end of the package, or visibly seeing the presenter stand up and leave the chair, so be it. Ideally neither of those would be the case as the gallery would immediately cut back to their sustaining/backup source, even if that was in the middle of a package or presenter read. Admittedly easier to be prepared for this if there is a warning stage first, but still easily possible without a warning phase. If a director asked me to stay in the gallery while an evacuate alarm was sounding, for 10 seconds while the package was finishing, to open a presenter's mic so they can do a proper apology for why they have to leave the building, which won't be easily heard over the alarms anyway, I'd laugh at them, press the network switch button, and leave. As is written protocol.

Both the ITV News West Country (East) and ITV News Meridian (Thames Valley) title sequences have hitherto featured footage of a chassis on the production line of the Honda factory in Swindon (as their 4th and 2nd image, respectively). The town of course being an overlap zone between the Mendip TX and Beckley (Oxford) TX.
The factory's closure was announced today, which was covered in the West Country news agenda. Presumably, Meridian covered the story too? The 4th image of the West Country (East) title sequence was therefore changed today. It is now an aerial view of Cheddar Gorge. Has Meridian Thames Valley also ditched the Honda factory image today, and - if so - what have they replaced it with?

I happened to see the 06:15 GMB Meridian bulletin yesterday. Watching on ITV HD Freeview which means the SE version.
The pre recorded bulliten refused to play, just a frozen image of the presenter. After a few seconds they cross faded to the 'South/TVal' version, where Honda Swindon was being mentioned. Mrs MM said to me, how come instead of foreign news about Kent, this morning we're getting foreign news about Swindon? I didn't have the energy to explain!

There was a London & SE Bulletin from BH this evening, but while there was a London & SE logo behind Asad Ahmad and he also mentioned the South East, the normal London titles were used, all stories were from London and the weather was a pre-recorded London only bulletin.

BBC South need to update their preloaded graphics. Last night, 'we're back at lunchtime tomorrow' was the script, while the on screen caption read, 'Next bulletin 06:25 in BBC Breakfast'

Yes, the 'NET 1' feed during opts is the BBC News Channel. The result of a missed opt looks like the News Channel carrying on after the simulcast national news, but it just crashes out at the end of the opt slot back to vanilla BBC 1. You end up if it happens at 22:30 with the weather forecast twice. It's a class act, but there you go.................. |
