The newsroom hoop must be in a particularly bad state, the touchscreen shot on Reeta is very close on the screen itself.

I thought we might at least see a pan to the weather balcony when Huw crosses to Rita.

I think we can safely say general election coverage from E is pretty much off the cards. It doesn't look great. Laura Kuensberg's camera position looks off to me.

Would be good if they constructed a set in the newsroom itself behind E. That could actually look pretty good.

A set in the newsroom itself could be interesting, but would cause massive disruption to the newsroom operation - not just in construction terms.

I'm not sure why you would build a set in the newsroom when you have a set looking into it. Sounds like something some exec would think of then demand. Crazier things have happened but it is not practical and a massive waste of resources. It will be interesting what happens when studio E gets refreshed and if any changes are made to the newsroom design.

They had the camera swoop over the newsroom in 2019 and many on the old place complained it was over the top, imagine if they build a whole set!

One would assume that if LauraK is on all night tonight,  Chris Mason may pick things up tomorrow.

Chris is hosting the Radio 4/5 Live and BBC local radio programme with Naga Munchetty through the night, so there may be a lull in between English councils reporting and then Scottish ones starting to come in, followed by NI?

There's something not quite right with Huw's eyeline. Possibly because he's using the screens in the desk rather than the prompter on the camera, it feels like he's looking up to the camera

Probably a problem with being in a news studio with a news desk. Usually the election presenter has a bank of screens in the desk showing tallies, data and notes. I doubt they can fit all that info on the screen in desk, so I imagine they are being kept just off screen - next to the camera on the catwalk. I also suspect this is why they aren't doing wide shots in E - might look a bit messy

Sorry, have to wholeheartedly disagree. The touchscreen graphics from this year and last are a massive improvement on previous years. Simple, clean design that conveys the info clearly. No graphic effects, 3D graphs, moving backdrops, stupid whooses or any of the other pitfalls of bad information design.

E isn’t the correct studio for elections.
It looks overcrowded and cheap.
With departments moving out from NBH to across the UK and people working remotely, you would think there would be room on one of the floors to build a new set?

Good Morning Britain have actually put in effort for this year's local elections for the first time ever - including putting some of the ITV election graphics of the big screen and some special election titles with new shots of Westminster (which I suspect will now succeed the only GMB elections titles used for the 2015, 2017 and 2019 GEs)
