Unfortunately, I haven't, and I'm on the beta of the BBC News app, meaning I've had the new logo on the home screen for months now. I wonder how they'll brand the news channel next though.

That won't last, especially as it seems unlikely it'll form part of the visual identity for BBC News on TV for some time yet.

Well someone's pushed the update out. Given that BBC News are supposed to be using the new BBC logo from next month I wonder if this will also include the News icon, even if it's more stuck on rather than an intrinsic part of the titles and identity for now.

Things certainly seem to be building to the 1st April with new BBC One idents, the iPlayer and Sounds rebrand almost there, new Radio identities rolling out and now the News icon making an appearance.

Shame it doesn’t animate as the iPlayer one does.

I like the new logo, but I am surprised the app intro is just the stacked version of the new logo rather than the version with the icon that animates. Also, the rest of the app hasn't changed, just the app icon and app intro. I'm sticking with the beta for now until the proper changes happen.

I’m still struggling to work out the logic of the new branding rollout, and finding it very bizarre.

The iPlayer icon has been slowly introduced, with the interim text-based logo finding its way onto the app icons first, followed later by the pink blocks after they’d been slowly introduced in promotions.

But then News goes straight in for the red blocks before they’ve appeared anywhere else… although there’s the text-based logo on the splash screen.

For a supposedly carefully planned, phased rollout, they’re doing a good job of making it all seem very random and haphazard.

I’m guessing it represents the places where you can “follow” BBC News - a tv screen, a computer screen and a phone screen? But if that’s the case, it would have made sense to introduced the ads like we’ve had for i-player: “follow on…” along with it.

And if that’s not what the logo means, then what is it?

Given the current budget constraints, I would say they want to roll it out slowly to see how it goes and make the necessary changes as they go rather than having a huge patch-up job that would go with a single rollout across all platforms (radio, tv, news, online).
