ITV News did that for a while too when the regional news was within the main ITN programmes.

I'd be more impressed if they ended with just the programme with just your local newsreader appearing to appear on the screen, which would be more relevant to most viewers.  Technically far more difficult of course but not impossible a bit of AR.  Still ultimately just as pointless though.

When TVS's Coast To Coast first started, they wrapped it around the ITN News at 5:45. They did the reverse thing there, and handed over to, and handed back from the ITN feed with it displayed on the studio set's screen.

The BBC could do the same I suppose at the end of the 6 and 10, but would look cheesy these days.

Midlands Today did this at the end of the 6 some years ago. The national presenters would appear on the big screen and Nick Owen would say “thank you George / Natasha. Welcome to Midlands Today.”

Which was achieved by cutting Birmingham's studio output to air before the opt out call from the network director (but during the soft opt), and putting network on the screen.

Somewhat off topic, but regional presenters thanking the network presenter is a real pet hate or mine. Even viewers who are fairly ignorant as to how TV works must realise the national presenter can’t hear them. It’s so twee and unnecessary. Just get on with it!

People actually listen to their BBC Local Radio station?! Don't know about them all, but mine always seems to try and appeal to both everybody and nobody. 

Dragging it back to TV, I don't mind regional presenters thanking network presenters so long as it's kept short. When the national news leads into local news, it's an easy way to provide a bit of continuity.

Not sure whether it's just because of the breaking news, but some poor framing at the start of the News at Six (the g of the Breaking animation on the main videowall was cutoff) and George looked very underlit at the main desk after the titles.

It must be, they had a program prepared with start of the show probably from the catwalk but instead a last minute change to news has meant script and studio bits are being written minutes before air

BTW is the 5pm hour back in E now they don't need to prep for the Six?

I think the 5pm hour has been back in E for a while now probably since Covid started.
