An oddity for the last regional opt during BBC Breakfast this morning. London and South East, which had been putting out their pan-regional bulletin from Tunbridge Wells earlier, broadcast BBC South's bulletin in sound only (over a Breakfast title card). The bulletin went out correctly with pictures in the South. Not seen Southampton used as the sustaining feed for a while (and in a way, I still haven't!)

This has always happened in the event that BBC London News suffers staff shortages (particularly when presenters get told all of a sudden to self-isolate). It annoys me every time this happens, as I usually have it on BBC One London most of the time…

It seems they have reverted back to a south east led bulletin covering London- we had this for a while last year for lunchtimes. In one way in terms of business resilience it makes sense to have a backup.

Beats me, but this has happened before. Firstly, London/South East hybrid bulletins were the norm from March to September 2020, and secondly, it returned for a bit the week starting January 23 due to staff shortages at BBC London, but these bulletins would make an occasional return now and then when BBC London had problems of their own - as it had done a few times pre-pandemic.

Yes, but the unusual aspect was that instead of the combined London and South East bulletin, the Southampton bulletin went out in sound only in those two regions (but in sound and vision as normal in the South).

No.

Too many journalists self isolating following pings, means they're concentrating resources on the 6.30 and 10.30 editions, and are temporarily not producing the Breakfast or lunchtime opts.

I wonder if the simulcast with world is being extended to 9am during the Olympics as Breakfast isn't on news channel? as it says BBC News, this would make sense with breakfast starting at 5am, but World Business Report hasn't been added at 0630 & 0730?

Olympic Breakfast won’t exist this year as we’ve known it in previous years.

Instead BBC news is being shown on BBC 2. Unclear in what format and as to whether it’ll be produced by the NC or World.

I can’t imagine Breakfast’s audience will be overly ecstatic to have no relevant news in the mornings.

It’d be great to see some kind of Breakfast on BBC TWO rather than hours of World bulletins.

Some wishful thinking here, but might be the opportune moment to raise the roof of that Breakfast studio. *couldn’t help myself

My Virgin Tivo box EPG is showing BBC 2 as broadcasting 'BBC News' until 9/10am from this Friday, over the weekend and into next week, where as BBC iPlayer schedule pages and Digiguide are showing repeats on BBC 2 from 6:35am.

Whilst I could see possibly a World simulcast continuing on the weekend until 9am, especially as it's only half hour bulletins, surely 6 - 9am on weekdays will be a UK only NC produced morning programme?

Of course if BBC 2 is simulcasting BBC News 6 - 9am, NI, Scotland & Wales can do regional opt-outs but England can't.

Outside Source is on air for the full 90 minutes from 7-8.30 on the News Channel tonight.

From today, until at least the end of the weekend:

• Both editions of OS air on the News Channel, at 1900 (60 minutes) and 2000 (30 minutes)

• A current affairs programme will air at 2030 after the headlines on the News Channel

• On Friday (no OS normally) World and NC will simulcast 1900-2100

• This weekend both channels will simulcast

In addition BBC London breakfast and lunchtime opts will come from Tunbridge Wells until and including Friday.

All caused by the high amount of editorial and operational staff self-isolating due to pings or positive tests.

Look East was pan-regional at 1830 and 2230 this evening from Norwich. It wasn't said specifically why. A reason was given that wouldn't normally warrant it editorially so suggests self isolation.

Frustratingly both bulletins uses East focus titles as did the studio screen - despite pan-regional variants actually existing.

Scotland can’t either, there has been no separate ‘BBC TWO Scotland’ since the launch of the BBC Scotland channel.
