ITV's continuity announcer just mentioned Wordle when introducing Lingo. The two ARE very similar, Wordle is just a five letter Lingo that doesn't give you the starting letter.

I didn't see the junction, however its got me thinking...could this be frowned upon by OFCOM, as its a form of advertising/undue promotion of a product/brand by mentioning this brand name (Wordle) in this announcement?

They would never get away with something along the lines of"It's Saturday night, so why not use your Samsung phone, order using Deliveroo to get your McDonald's, with a glass of Coca Cola and a Ben & Jerry's for afters, and a chocolate Cadburys treat for later, it's tonight's final of Limitless Win"
"From today you'll hear some new voices when you're watching UTV, as for the time being we're handing over to our colleagues at ITV, but rest assured Julian and I will be back with you as soon as possible"

It's a cock up, not promoting a product so Ofcom isn't likely to investigate...

Who’s the VO? He sounds very familiar.

It doesn't sound like a cock-up, but equally doesn't sound like an intentional promotion.

Could've used it as an opportunity to plug the Lingo game, perhaps.

Surely the news would get done for it almost every night, therefore?

Yeah, they didn't mix them up. They were basically saying if you like Wordle you'll enjoy Lingo.
Will surely be a legal case brewing at some point considering Lingo is long established in other countries. I guess the question is whether that was based on a game itself that Wordle could argue it also originates from.

Equally, "Do you love Lingo? Well, here's Lingo" doesn't make much sense.
On the subject of Lingo it seems to be getting some good ratings. I take it that ITV dominate in the ratings 3-6pm.

Yes, Lingo I think has been by far the most successful of the 3pm shows. Feels like it is inevitable they'll expand into that 2pm hour but that may kill off Countdown once and for all, which I doubt ITV want to do.

I can't see ITV putting another gameshow at 2pm, I think the Dickinson's Real Deal and Judge Rinder combo plus the odd new commission is enough to fill the slot for the year.
Not sure there have been any new Judge Rinder episodes in two years, despite I'd have thought it lending itself to covid safe filming. I think Real Deal has only had new compilation episodes but understandable that might be trickier to produce.
