The HD loop gives me the sudden urge to go to the loo...

That HD end board is a much much better one than the one that came before. There is something tranquil about sea crashing to shore.

I do quite like that slide - it gives us a good idea of what the breakdown slide and others will look like too.

Couldn’t read the text on the new (old) ident maybe it needs a subtle drop shadow or something,

The ident for BBC ONE almost looks like it crashed on screen, the animation with the blocks is already happening at the top by the time the viewer sees it. I would have thought the red screen with the logo slowing forming large in the centre would have been a much better intro for them, like we saw in the promo. The same sort of faded circles we see in the all red BBC ONE video before a trailer plays. Also, on trailers for programmes you can see that same faded circle animation over the start of it, but that kind of motif isn't carried over to BBC TWO promos.

Also wish they would tighten up their use of BBC ONE / BBC One, it's all in caps on the channel itself but 'One' on the BBC ONE HD holding page and on TV guides etc.

Text on the promo endboards showing the time the programme is on is way too small. The "Dog Walkers From Wherever" text on the idents is bigger! The region name under the ONE/TWO is also too small. I understand they want to push BBC as much as they can but this seems like too much of a swing in that direction and makes the TV presentation look off as a result.

Here’s the first ident on BBC One Scotland.

“SCOTLAND” is placed below “ONE” in all caps.

This gives us an idea of how regional idents work.

The new idents look... interesting, to say the least. I'm still not keen on the new logo Sad

The sizing on the regional text sorta exacerbates the awkward sizing of the BBC logo up there. Everything's trying to catch your attention and it's quite annoying, I would've liked it a lot better if they made the logo just a bit smaller and aligned everything better in terms of size.

The only thing that really bugs me is the size of the channel name against the BBC logo. The size of the regional text is even worse! Other than that though it’s nice…

Think that's because it immediately followed a Children in Need promo. The BBC Two junction had a Doctor Who trail just before the ident where the BBC logo stretched right at the end before springing back at the start of the ident, which is presumably how it is normally supposed to work and flowed much better.

I'm sorry to be *that* person - I do think the trailer designs look good and I have no issue with the tweaked logo - but I do wish we were getting a "big bang" style refresh today, rather than the gradual roll-out we're getting.

It's just odd, to me, to be veering from one new-style trailer (BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, BBC iPlayer) to an old style one (CBeebies, CBBC) and programmes still using the old logo (BBC News etc.). It's all so inconsistent... but yes, I appreciate it's all gradual and that the BBC is a huge organisation and these things take time. I just think I would have preferred it if they waited until all BBC departments were ready for the switch - and in the know about the new logo - rather than this staggered approach.

It being written as "BBC One HD" in the first sentence of the Red Screen Of Death is perfectly correct, because it's an actual sentence (as opposed to just a logo, which can legitimately be e.g. ALL CAPS as a style choice).

Otherwise the sentence would read as "Bee Bee See Owe Enn Eee Aitch Dee cannot yet show programmes from your area".

Completely valid opinion but it’s not a case of waiting to be ready, Chameleon had a phased rollout all along.

It’s not meant to be a big bang “this is the new BBC” rebrand but rather a evolution to get “future-ready”.

Whether that is right or wrong and whether it’s too late is of course a different matter.

From my personal view, I do think that the old logo should nowhere to be seen on any channel or service that has been rebranded today. You don’t need to change the news titles in order to use the new logo. It’s also a 2 minute job to replace the stickers on laptops and it wouldn’t have been hard to order new mugs ?

The new idents and promos are nice and do exactly what they’re meant to do - the BBC brand is in your face while the channel name is relegated to a small mention at the very bottom of the screen.

It’s perfectly valid to refresh more gradually, and it’s actually both amusing and infuriating seeing certain people so high and mighty about it. The BBC NEVER said this would be a one/hit operation. That came from here. There are really good reasons for doing this more slowly: cost, resilience, the chance to learn. Companies very often don’t do everything in one go. The passion from some about all this is really quite mad.

Red Screen of Death? Why do you call it that?
