Border Scotland also has the same problem as STV and where to put Tuesdays soaps.

ITV run Border Scotland and have dumped the soaps in the same late night slot, so I guess STV are just going along with what ITV have decided to do at Border Scotland.

This is one of the issues of not having national versions of ITV2. Otherwise, the soaps could be moved to ITV2 Scotland and everyone's happy.

I'm just agog at who would stay up until nearly 1am to watch an episode of a soap when the average soap viewer will need to be awake by 7am?

I mean they'd be better off using the 5pm slot for a couple of days!

Maybe they'll run a recap before Wednesday's episodes?

I only watch the Classic Corrie episodes and not the Classic Emmerdale as I could never keep up with 10 episodes of both as well as all the modern episodes.

In Classic Corrie today we had Roy's reaction to Hayley's news - id forgotten he struggled to come to terms with it at first. Next week we have Deirdre's trial and the famous 'I didnt do any of it!' scene that is always played during any footage of Corrie's best moments over the years.

That makes sense - I prefer the STV Player to the ITV one in all honesty.

Another option would have been to run behind England for the rest of the week and catch up on Sunday teatime. I'm sure there's a logical explanation.

I can't understand why ITV didn't put out Fridays episode on Sunday night instead of Tipping Point - that is more of a natural overflow slot for Corrie than Tuesday nights.

But we've complained for two decades about the loss of regionality on the ITV network so it is nice to see some regional variations, even if they make little sense. Arguably replacing Tipping Point and The Chase from 4-6pm tomorrow would be better for soap fans than a two hour block from 11.15pm. Otherwise if they had been willing to stay one night behind with the Royal documentary dropped on Thursday there was an opportunity to catch up there.

I guess there is logic to sucking up all the disruption on one night rather than potential disrupting the schedule for three or four nights, and it's slightly better than the situation in the US where pre-empted primetime programmes often end up after the late night talk show block at 1.35am or 2.05am.

STV showing the episodes so late does seem very strange, as you say it would have been far better to stay behind the networked episodes until a more suitable slot was found to catch up even if it meant over the weekend. I agree Brekkie, Sunday 7pm would have been the best slot all round for the displaced Friday episodes especially as Wales had to cancel their leaders debate so it was already a change of schedule in Wales.

I did laugh at Gail's comment about Leanne and Nick in tonight's episode, she still hadn't changed her opinion of Leanne 23 years on as seen in the classic episodes! We had a mention from Leanne of her and Nick's first wedding in Scotland the other day, and Nick mentioned loving Leanne for 23 years - almost exactly 23 years ago is where we are in the classic episodes.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the soaps in Scotland if Independence does happen. It's quite likely they'll go on the open market - and be "bought-in" in the same way the Aussie soaps are. So Scottish viewers might well find themselves so many weeks "behind England" - I've watched Christmas episodes of Home & Away at some interesting times of the year over its life! :lol:

Yes I remember that too. I think the prison officer let her think she was being released to make her accept she wasn’t getting out. She was taken to the door and, like you say, was told as much.

I suppose it depends what would happen to STV. Bar any regulatory changes and perhaps the loss of ITV News, I don’t see why the ITV/STV arrangement couldn’t continue post-independence.

Yeah, it's the BBC which they're more likely to lose. STV could just buy in ITV's shows in bulk like Virgin Media One does in Ireland.

Yes, that rings a bell, though it is 23 years ago and I wouldn't have been paying the biggest attention to it at the time. We'll be seeing it again in the next 2 or 3 weeks anyway for a refresher.

Its surprising what you forget in 23 years..... I remember clearly a lot of the storylines like Deirdre and Jon, Leanne and Nick getting married, Sam and Des etc but I have no memory of Steve's girlfriend Rachel at all. Obviously not a memorable character!
