Yes, I agree. I see why they had to have so much filler and did spot them joining at the start of the next story. Oddest things for me were the cuts to the sound at various points - fair old bit of silence at times and the need to go to the short countdown, which they then repeated a couple of seconds of before cutting away. It felt a bit messy - they might have been better off just sticking with the long loop and fading that down at the appropriate point. It's a shame the don't have a super long edit of the filler for these sort of situations!

(It's not really a crash because you can see they waited till the report ended on the Six before switching into studio E's feed).
What's really interesting in the clip above is the "Countdownless countdown" (not the filler) at 2:03 and 2:06... never seen that before on air.
studio that was carrying the briefing was E with Ben Brown, and then reeta took over for the Six mid briefing, it was only that it was delayed so much.. usually it starts 5 pm and it's done by about 5:40/5:45 and Ben or whoever can wrap up/sum up the briefing, before handing over to another pres, or he/she will take the Six their self

I always wondered why they don't do this anyway? itv, sky and bbc are always filming their journey asking the question to use in the evening packages but not sure why they don't just use it for the zoom as well ? unless they like the look of the talking to the laptop etc

In the BBC's case the assignment of their web conference engines, doesn't include any return path studio video routing, which (as discussed in the old place) is why the person the other end is presented with a BBC logo to stare at.
Other than that, to do as you suggest would tie up studio resources, so not really cost effective for a few seconds screen time.
Mind you if I was building a TV news facility at present, I'd be inclined to perhaps put something in a room for such uses, that's a bit better than a laptop, as they are likely to be a thing for the short term

sorry, just to clarify - does this mean that the journos can't see the presser just hear it? when I spoke to a sky engineer few weeks back at Buckingham palace he said that Downing Street have their own two DSLR cameras that they use for their own feed of the presser (for their social media etc, which is why it's a different look to the one on tv), and they use the video from this to be the 'webcams' for the zoom. Maybe he was wrong ??♂️

No, the jornos can see and hear whatever No10 are feeding them on the Zoom (or whatever) feed, because they are using laptops connected via regular Wifi to t'internet.
What I'm saying is, in the BBC's case their web conference engines (that have SDI inputs and outputs to allow Zoom etc interviews to be put to air, are unable (to easily) feed those SDI inputs with studio or programme video) .
Sky and ITN might be able to. GMB certainly can, because recently Patsy Palmer saw the caption referring to her, and objected to its content

So when GMB do their remote interviews (I think we discussed this on another thread) the guest will basically be looking At the studio output in their zoom? Whereas BBC don’t have the capacity to do that?
