I see Sanditon is now returning as a BritBox exclusive, though guess it might get an airing on ITV down the line. IIRC I don't think it did that well for ITV but did well enough internationally to get recommissioned.

ITV though noitceably putting as much effort into promoting BritBox nowadays as they do their main channel - and indeed ads for their own content are increasingly for series that have been completed and are now available in full on the ITV Hub or ad free on BritBox.

That’s probably referring to Morris dancing which traditionally incorporates blackface (or full face black make up).

Yeah, there was an episode of EastEnders on Drama where we lost around a third of the episode because of blackface morris dancers.

Whilst that particular warning is unusual it does at least help the viewer to make an informed decision as to whether they still want to watch that programme/episode. It seems like a fairly sensible compromise that usually avoids the need to edit or completely remove episodes/series. For example on iPlayer some episodes of The Young Ones contain a warning about containing 'discriminatory language'.

Yes but it does get silly because these days anyone can be offended by something, so where do you draw the line? Hence the post regarding the warning about dancing, it has been ridiculed because it is badly worded and nobody knows what it really means unless you have seen the episode. There have been even stranger warnings I have seen but the wording has escaped me.

Expected really but Britbox will no longer be commissioning any new UK productions. Series 2 of Crime (series 1 began not too long ago) will now be an ITVX original. There's a few other new shows that were ordered by Britbox but will now be held back for ITVX so presumably there won't be anything new on the service at all going forward. They'll still licence old content. International Britbox isn't affected. The article's also suggesting that it will be folded into ITVX - keeping the Britbox brand but not necessarily being available to subscribe to on its own.

No mention in that article but I can imagine that being more of a draw to ITVX than it was to Britbox so wouldn't be surprised if it returned.

Britbox UK managed 18 original commissions in total.

It's only really since the new year they've had original content with any kind of regularity rather than once every few months.

Will be interesting what happens with other channel content long term now we're going from an ITV led collection of content under the BritBox brand to an ITV branded platform. Certainly feels like it is more in competition with a service like All4 than complementing it now.

Not really a comparison, as All4 make a point of themselves being free. ITVX will not be free.

I believe the Britbox element will continue to be SVOD, but the rest of ITVX will be AVOD with the option as now with ITV Hub to pay to remove commercials (or add Britbox).
