The One Show

Mid to Late 70s Tuesdays at 18:50ish was the regional programme slot.

Here we had the local kids show, 'Hey Look That's Me'. I assume in the Midlands the local incarnation of Top Gear was in this slot ?

In the Midlands it was a regional music show hosted by Toyah Wilcox, called Look Hear if I remember correctly. It was really good!

I don't think BBC Southampton had a large enough sound desk to do such a programme Big Grin

I suspect it went between Top Gear and Look Hear - I was far more interested in the music than the latest output of British Leyland back then.
I have to agree that Southampton might have struggled to do a music show in the same way that Pebble Mill was equipped to do, now I wonder if it is the other way around?!

Just found a February 1979 episode on You Tube - who would have thought. It's called Look! Hear! and has Toyah Willcox (not Wilcox) co-presenting with some local Midlands DJs.

In the North West we had Sit Thi' Deawn! starring Lancashire folk outfit The Houghton Weavers. I also remember a sketch show starring the recently departed Tom O'Connor, which always ended with him telling a rude version of Noddy and being cut off by the credits when it got to the really rude part...

Happened to walk past New Broadcasting House earlier and it looked like The One Show studio was being given a full refit - so this is perhaps a more substantial change than a rejig of the titles.

They have the big ONE letters in the studio that are in the same font as the logo, remember. A new logo means those had to go. Makes sense to replace everything else (which is probably just as old?) at the same time. That's presumably why the show is currently on a break.

Does anybody know when The One Show returns?

Is it likely BBC One will launch it’s new look then?

I can’t say too much, but it will be.

Doesn’t the show always go on a break around this time of year?

Yes, it does, I think the run is 46 weeks of the year with two weeks off at Christmas and four weeks in the summer. Often the summer break is disguised a bit as it coincides with a sporting event, but this year they decided to keep it running during the Olympics - probably as it allowed for at least one non-sporting show on BBC1 every night - and then go off after it.
