TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread

Dave just had a issue but sadly I didn't catch images or video. Basically it got stuck on its bumper, a breakdown caption appeared, then got stuck on an ad.

Maybe a breakdown? Don Lemon was on Joy Reid’s show on MSNBC promoting his book. Whoever booked The Switch circuit they had a hard out time of 8:00PM. Who ever booked it should have added an extra minute. Their ICOD (inter city) allows bookings down to the minute as Joys show usually runs a bit over time. In the end it’s no big deal.

I vividly remember the BGT breakdown in 2018, because I was watching the first live show, and I knew that there was some inclement weather going on around the country (I think a thunderstorm was forecasted for my part of the UK), but to see the live feed glitch and then the breakdown caption come up was... rather interesting, to say the least! I think I remember watching the highlights clips they showed before the show eventually got back on the road, but I also remember the scream from the audience when Cali Swing (the first act who the Judges were going to comment on before the breakdown happened) didn't get through to the Final...

Anyone know what the track is called on that breakdown slide? It's a nice piece of music, I assume it's from one of those commercial music libraries.

I remember somebody mentioning the full version of this breakdown, where the Wallace and Gromit theme started playing over one of the dancer idents, before a director's cut to a fault caption and the announcer barely holding in her laughter.

The only clips of this breakdown online is the last few seconds with the breakdown caption, where the announcer apologises and says that they can now go to "Best Inventions"

I think i heard about this one somewhere (TV Whirl?). Wallace and Gromit was supposed to play, but there were some sort of difficulties and the programme was dropped.

In this one the weather computer decided it would like to be upgraded to Windows 10! Smile

thats someone not having Active Directory and the policies set up correctly (if at all) it was disabled in corporate use if set correctly - you would think as its something shown on the air - and need to be connected to the internet - they would have set it up right.

Indeed, BBC were broadcasting a load of Wallace and Gromit shorts during Christmas 2002 and this was a fault leading to one of them, where eventually they just scrapped the short for that evening and went straight to Best Inventions.

Hopefully somebody uploads the full version of this online at some point, I would love to see the carnage that happened before.

(Interesting they were still using "Against the Clock" as the breakdown music by that point)

Here is a breakdown from BBC 2 on the 10th April 1986 in which both sound and picture have problems during the programme Discovering Birds.

Ah, a nice example of a head clog developing on a Quad VTR. You can see the four bands across the picture of the head becoming clogged giving less and less output as time goes by. In fact there are 5 bands* but you can’t see the 5th one because it’s ‘across’ the vertical picture interval where the all the important vertical picture synchronising info is so it’s pretty inevitable the VTR will become very unhappy. And so it came to pass, a miserable situation for whoever was minding the machine at the time.

* the four heads on a uk quad machine rotate at 5 times the field frequency, ie 250Hz.

Interesting too that the BBC were still playing out from Quad as late as 1986? .
