I’m sure Ian King continued last summer, the politics programme is sort of fair enough but business doesn’t have a hiatus in the same way as parliamentary recess, a little bit of a strange move.

Yes, Ian King Live was 2x30 minute slots per day from the start of the pandemic until the partial schedule revamp in September 2020. In previous years I remember it taking the summer off. EPG suggests a 10-12 shift.
In other news, it looks like "A Week In Interviews" is back this weekend after an 8-month (if not longer) hiatus.

I couldn’t remember previous summer periods, but I just thought this year particularly with a lot of the impacts on business and post COVID recovery it might be worth keeping on air. When clearly they staffed it last year, perhaps the ‘pingdeminc’ may have forced a more stripped back style.
I notice overnights some days over the last few weeks have repeated midnight throughout til 6am, doesn’t seem to be any reasoning on when they do this, for instance one day this week they missed a few key medals for Team GB despite leading with that at 6am, but not a mention at all - bar the ticker - at 3am, 4am or 5am.
Interesting if they do have a separate morning shift, and who’ll present it. Maybe nice to see Niall get a lie in and do that shift for a few weeks.

I understand that this is due to, uh, "pingdemic" reasons and people on annual leave, resulting in reduced staffing levels for overnights and prioritising staff for during the day (they can go on-air in case of genuine breaking news overnight.)
I agree - Niall is on holiday though according to his Twitter!

Is the ticker higher up on the screen? Noticed graphics clashing with their in vision translation subtitles yesterday. Now showing pictures from the US Election where the ticker is covering some of the lower thirds at the time.
Barry Weir stayed on past 6am to do The Early Rundown this morning. Stephen in for Kay also on the 7am-10am slot .

Programmes made pre-graphics relaunch have not been re-edited to adjust graphics, due to staffing constraints.
Minor observation, I’ve just noticed that Early Rundown never has the proper title card/show name on the long exterior shot of the Glass Box. So whereas the other branded shows, Today / SJM Show / News Hour etc. all have the show name on screen, Early Rundown doesn’t and just has the generic Sky News one used on overnights and weekends. The name does appear on the big screen though, just thought it was a bit odd.
Just watched Breakfast/Kay Burley this morning and I think Kay's style of interviews can be quite unnecessarily stand-offish and combative especially when talking to MPs. Perhaps someone's walking in Pier Morgan's steps? :lol:

I rarely watch Sky News but due to Breakfast being the way it is for the Olympics have tuned in first thing. Steve Dixon is a pleasure to watch but as for Burley - I find her such so unpleasant. I agree with her, her style is way off but she's always been the same no matter who she's interviewing. Angry, aggressive, argumentative, and actually ill informed a lot of the time. There are plenty of examples of 'Burley's Boo Boos' on Youtube. It's no wonder she gets slated on on Twitter when she does overstep her mark.

Had no idea there's such a hilariously bad compilation of Kay's boo boos. And while we're on the topic of presenters, I'd love to see more diversity on screen to be honest.
Gamal and Vanessa are seriously underrated talents on Sky.

You won't be seeing very much of Gamal on Sky News at all, I'm afraid - he moved (back) over to ITV earlier in the year where he presents Granada Reports.
I remember Gamal's fairly short-lived spell with ITV Breakfast around the transition between the Lorraine & Aled era of Daybreak and the launch of Good Morning Britain. He was utilised as an on-location reporter then and was one of their best.
He has only gone from strength to strength since.
I rate him highly.

I agree. Kay Burley's style is making Sky News at that time of day unbearable to watch. "Angry, aggressive and argumentative" really sums it up, and there is absolutely no need for it.

I rate him highly. He has proven to be excellent on Granada Reports in the difficult role of replacing Tony Morris, especially when his co-host very quickly had to take an extended break herself for a few months.
