Neighbours ends

The cast are going to be touring the UK early next year as part of an official farewell Neighbours convention type thing.

It would be great if they had a convention in the early afternoon, then repeat doing the whole thing 4 hours later..

I do hope C5 will move Home & Away back into the 6pm slot after August, although judging by H&A's socials, nobody seems that bothered about the fact that the picture quality on 5 Star is absolute doggy doo-doo. They advertise it as "1:15 on C5" and there's always comments along the line of "and it's on 5 Star too."

I always think the younger generation are so used to streaming they don't care about picture quality, especially as none of the PSB's players are all that great. The commercial ones are SD outside of Sky and Virgin. iPlayer musters 720p but you have that awful film effect on everything.

From C5's point of view the primetime ad quotas mean it's better off on 5 Star where it can include advertising at 6pm/6.30pm (do they still have two internal breaks?) than on the main channel where it is now more beneficial to use their ad quota later in the evening now.

Even if they stuck it on C5 at 4.30pm though that would be better than just showing at lunchtime where once Neighbours is gone it'll be rather unsupported in the schedule.

I don’t think they will move Eggheads as it provides a genuine alternative to most shows at 6.30. I could see them using the 6pm slot as a repeat slot, but probably random short reworkings of programmes as opposed to H&A. Can’t see them commissioning something new for it. They already have a lot of live topical now with the extended JV show in mornings.

Don’t think the format would extend to an hour. They could always show two a night but then it would become a bit fatigued

I hate Eggheads myself but it probably could be expanded to an hour as they like to waffle and stretching from a 30 minute BBC show to a commercial hour isn't that big a stretch. Going back to 5 contestants and changing each round to 5 questions each rather than 3 would soon fill the hour, whilst they could also stick in a longer 5 News Update to back fill the hour if needs be.

Whether people would watch it for a full hour is more what I was thinking. Something easy to put on when you have your tea but an hour is quite a stretch for that format. Could see it being 45 mins but wouldn’t fit with the hour long news format.

The other option would be to move the news hour to 5:30-6:30 and then repeat Home & Away at 5pm.  Obviously the issue with that these days is you don't have kids programming as a lead-in; but it's a very different show anyway now.

They’ve only just relaunched 5 News at 5 so I don’t think they’re likely to move it to 5.30. Don’t think going up against BBC News would do it any favours. But might make sense on an advertising front to be fair.

Not sure if it's confirmed but Daily Mail have reported that Jackie Woodburne who plays Susan Kennedy will have the honour of delivering the final lines in the final scene on the last episode of Neighbours. Luckily it doesn't give any more information away apart from that but what we do know is that it's going to be emotional.

There's the Cash In The Attic reboot to come. Hopefully it's for a lunchtime slot rather than later as there's too many daytime shows in primetime as it is.

I think for me the best era of Neighbours has to be 1997 to 2001.
