Jacob-Rees Mogg’s and Nicola Sturgeon’s contributions were both a little odd in their own ways. But don’t want to take away from it being an excellent send off for a wonderful broadcaster - which it was.

Probably the finest send-off of a newscaster I have ever seen. It wasn't at all cringeworthy or self-congratulatory, yet showed the high regard everyone has for Jon Snow, from his colleagues to politicians and members of the public. It was so typical of Jon to rightly praise the technical staff who bring C4 News on the air, many of whom work tirelessly and are rarely recognised.
It's sad that the huge names of TV News that I grew up with have left the stage - Trevor McDonald, John Suchet, Peter Sissons, Michael Buerk, Anna Ford, Martyn Lewis et al - and now Jon Snow. It was so fitting to play Jon out with the original version of the C4 News theme, 'Best Endeavours,' and a nice extended outing at that. The rarely-heard middle 8 section really brought a lump to my throat as Jon was being congratulated by his colleagues in the newsroom. Not only a testament to Jon, but also to the recently-departed composer, Alan Hawkshaw. Two C4 News legends in their own right.

It’s always sad to see when a legendary news presenter retires, I just do think that all the legendary Newsreaders had a very unique delivery that got the viewers attention and listening, and these were the days without big graphics on screen, so they had to cultivate a delivery and style that did this and make them stand out, yeah it’s definitely sad though seeing these legendary presenters but that’s how it is.

Certainly feels like the last of a generation with the core BBC, ITV and C4 teams now pretty much compiled of newsreaders who took up the role in the 21st century with the odd exception being from the late 90s.

C4 News had a very different original theme tune for the first months.

I saw his send-off when it aired three days ago and I have to say that it was a fitting one. His legacy as one of the best newsreaders from the past 50 years will live on.
