I really wouldn’t be surprised if BBC Scotland’s ‘The Sunday show’ with Martin Geissler got networked. It’ll be interesting to see what they do as 16 years is a long time

I doubt they will do that as he is not that well known outside of Scotland. I think they will need a well known national broadcaster

He used to work for ITN as scotland correspondent, Africa & Europe correspondent and also had a couple of Sunday shifts on Breakfast a few months back, I’m sure. So he’s potentially known, just on a rival channel

I think Emma only presents Newsnight once a week anyway, so could give up that shift for the Sunday gig.

However, as much as I'd love Emma to do it, it's going to be a high profile political journalist which really leaves it to Nick or Laura.

I would be against any wholesale reworking of the format. They try to make it the TV equivalent of bits of a Sunday broadsheet - and I'd hope we wouldn't see that go just because Andrew is leaving.

The political guests are usually quite high profile and Marr has typically used his main interview to ask them about the events/criticism of the week just gone - and the Govt Minister usually tries to set the agenda/tone for events in the week ahead. As a result it often 'makes' the Sunday news and clips appear throughout the day on other bulletins. Not sure either the broadcaster or politicians would want to change that.

The Sunday Politics was more of a mixed bag and doesn't feel like it's been that much of a loss.

Sorry can't answer that one .. it depends on how the BBC wants to be seen, given the current political situation with the Johnson government and the LF.

However, as much as I'd love Emma to do it, it's going to be a high profile political journalist which really leaves it to Nick or Laura.

The arts and cultural side of the Sunday show is what does concern me when it comes to a replacement, I think Nick Robinson could handle it but Laura doesn't strike me as someone who would see something at the National Theatre or a new film release for example but I could be proven wrong.

Kirsty Walk fits the description perfectly. Great at interviewing the politicians and can easily cover the arts stuff after years of doing both on Newsnight.

Not wishing to be too ageist, but is she likely to be a long term answer?

As an outside shout maybe Mishal Husain. Very used to interviewing politicians and world figures from Today and previously BBC World News, has the gravitas but warmth required for the Marr role and would no doubt be capable at the arts/culture sections.

Any of her, Kirsty Wark, Jon Sopel or Nick Robinson would be an excellent choice.

I remember Martin well from ITN, and I'm not from Scotland. I think he's very unlikely for BBC1 Sunday mornings though - he seems too well established on the Nine.

According to the Guardian, Mishal Husain has been tipped to replace Huw on the Ten when he moves to big events and elections.

I truly believe there are only a few contenders to replace Marr. Laura K, Jon Sopel, Nick Robinson or Emily Maitlis.

We won't have long to wait I am sure. When does Marr usually return after the Christmas Break? Week 1 or 2?

Didn't Huw want to do something different? Maybe Huw for Politics and events. And find a new 10pm presenter.

I wouldn't rule that out and it's a good way to step down from the flagship bulletin but retain what is seen as a flagship role - though presumably it would still require a paycut.

Maybe if they look outside the BBC could they lure back Peston? Most ITV Political Editors find their way back to the BBC and now they'd have something to offer him that is probably one of the main factors keeping him at ITV.

As forum members may realise from my previous posts, I am quite a fan of Emma 'Rabid Dog' Barnett.

I would enjoy watching her savage an unsuspecting politician on Sunday mornings.

The Sunday morning political slot has always taken a rather more gentle approach to interviewing which can be just as effective in its own way.

A less obviously confrontational style can cause politicians to drop their guard somewhat, which often results in some killer blows being dealt. Whilst I think hard political maulings have their place, I’m not sure it’s on a Sunday morning over breakfast.
