It's a shame the forum was down yesterday, so I couldn't wax lyrical about Yalda and how great she was. I mean, us on World, already knew this but yesterday the UK audience and the world got to see true journalism at work. The interview with the Taliban spokesperson was historic, in a way, giving us first real facts on the situation and what to expect in Afghanistan. Yalda asked all the right questions, challenging him, but not trying to be combative and make it all about her. Something rarely seen on tv these days. Not to mentioned that she interviewed around 20 other people, before and after that big interview, plus dealt with technical stuff with her phone and audio.

When she joined World as Mishal's replacement I expected her to be the next Mishal and she's certainly doing that.

I was away for the weekend, and when I got in late last night the news channel was showing Hard Talk .... so I caught up with things on Sky News. I don't watch a lot of Sky News but found Stuart Ramsay's initial reports excellent. For those that missed it, they showed a clip from earlier on Sunday when he was broadcasting as it became apparent Taliban supporters (possibly fighters) were present in the street next to his location: Taliban march past Sky's chief correspondent

This report from today included a brief car ride in Kabul: The Taliban win the war in Afghanistan, after 20 years of fighting.

A good overall summary and makes a slight change from the endless Zoom calls with analysts (although these obviously serve their purpose to inform).

I note that Sky News was doing further lives today but Stuart Ramsay is now wearing a flak jacket (unsurprisingly).

Lots of well deserved praise, but of course one news outlet - and not the one you would expect - has to go for a ridiculous clickbait headline about Yalda being "flustered" by the call, which is being rightly corrected by people who actually know just amazing a piece of broadcasting it was.

had they given the guy a number to call for a producer who would transfer the call to the gallery, but he rang Yalda's mobile by mistake and she ran with it rather than risk losing the scoop? Or did that plan fall through for some reason and he just happened to call later (the clock on some of the recordings says 11.30-ish)

I caught the end of the phone interview as it went out and had to rewatch it. Incredible piece of television. Yalda Hakim is fantastic and rightly receiving a lot of praise.

Wow. There was quite a lot of intense questioning coming from members of the press in the White House after Biden finished his speech on Afghanistan. I'm watching coverage with Luaren Taylor from Al Jazzera English with Shihab Rattansi at Washington D.C. The coverage from them has been brilliant tonight.

Have to echo how informative Yalda Hakim et al on BBC News have been. The phone interview with the Taliban spokesperson yesterday was quite extraordinary, I think Yalda was on air without a break from one interview to the next for almost 90 minutes including that 30 minute interview.

Probably more for discussion in the Sky News thread but it baffles me how one of the best talents at Sky is off air before 7am.

Channel 4 have a new documentary on now entitled The Children of 9/11: Our Story. What a night to show this stuff when one of the major areas of the ME conflict is now under under control one of the biggest terrorist groups based there after a near 20 year conflict in Afghanistan. The world can be one grim place at times when everything bad can fall into place at the last second.

I think the 20th anniversary may focus opinion on the current situation in a way that asks more questions than had it happened at a different time.

I've not seen much UK reporting on how the American people feel about this and whether there is the same sense amongst their injured troops and there bereaved families that there seems to be in the UK.
