That's always been the case, no?

nope!

When did it change? I've been in news galleries a lot over the last year, every time I've been working during a Number 10 press conference it's been mixed by the individual broadcasters.

I"m not sure, but I have been watching the last few ones closely and it looked like it was same cuts on both sky and bbc... perhaps I'm wrong! but that's what I noticed over last few weeks/months until Monday

BBC One has decided to keep Antiques Road Trip on BBC One but didn’t manage to update the EPG on time.

I wondered why my EPG was showing it should be on BBC One right now.

They usually always provide 2 feeds to the media, main camera and cutaway camera.

Downing st Presser overran past 18:00 so the simulcast on BBC1 ended, and went to the Six handing over to Reeta, and News Channel continues carrying the presser. Not seen this before!

I’m not sure we’ve ever seen a journalist provide their own slides either, that was another first tonight

Ed Conway did at some point, using the screen in Sky's Glass Box with some data on it.

And then two plays of a countdown less countdown that I don’t think I’ve seen before?

Before crashing into the News at Six.
As seen on BBC Newswatch

It was a weird one, almost worthy of a breakdown, but not quite. I didn't think Boris ended his waffle too abruptly, it was obvious that he was wrapping up so I'd be surprised if the newsroom was caught on the hop. I've caught the 3 minutes of the countdownless countdown, I'm sure someone will upload a better copy soon (phone recording off TV I'm afraid):

It just feels like they don't have a presenter ready on time in whatever studio's gallery that was carrying the briefing, so when it ended earlier than anticipated they simply can't have a presenter to ad-lib and fill time till the start of Sportsday... hence they just cut straight to the filler and wait for the current report/package to end on the Six and "crash" into it. (It's not really a crash because you can see they waited till the report ended on the Six before switching into studio E's feed).

What's really interesting in the clip above is the "Countdownless countdown" (not the filler) at 2:03 and 2:06... never seen that before on air.
