Only 3m for this though it still was the highest rated show of the day across all channels (except I assume for the Champions League which I don't have the rating for).
I believe ITV's upcoming Starstruck was filming at Bovington at the time.
3m isn't bad considering how hot it was yesterday and the Champions League, which with a peak of 3.5m seemed to underperform a bit (coverage average was 1.5m but that includes 2 hours of pre-match build up so the peak is probably a better guide of how the actual match performed).

Not sure if coverage on the BT app is included in that figure, plus YouTube of course.
Back to The Masked Dancer and it felt a stronger show tonight. Now we've got over the hurdle of them not singing you could enjoy the performances more and the clues seemed a bit more forthcoming so it felt more playalong.

Joel Dommett on Lorraine today hinted that tonight’s unveiling is someone he didn’t think would do the show in a million years.
That’s a shame. I love the singing version, but this just isn’t quite as good. Coupled with the bank holiday, nice weather & restrictions easing - its all a bit of an unfortunate mix.
But, I expect BGT will be back in the May Half Term week next year. So if this is a 1 series and done for ITV then no real harm done? If it does pick up, could it be suitable for summer next year? I know we’ve got the Euros very soon but seeing as they’ve moved a Voice Kids to December, I’m not sure what Saturday night shows they’ve got planned for summer 2021.

No surprise though I imagine it'll pick up on weeknights in between the soaps. Ratings on around the same level as The Voice Kids in the overnights.

The voice kids usually does high 2s to mid 3s, so it was quite a bit lower than that last nigh. Should hopefully pick up tonight though.

It doesn’t usually air on Bank Holiday Sundays against the Call the Midwife series finale though. I think hold off to see how it does through the week as it didn’t stand a chance last night.

I don't know why they chose to air it over a week, compared to just having it on Saturday nights. Yes, the absence of BGT nightly shows can explain it a bit, but I feel it would have benefited to airing weekly, giving time to settle in, rather than night after night, when audiences get bored quickly of the same format each night.

As has been alluded to above, it's a less engaging show than Singer so once a week may have felt unnecessarily padded out and too much of a commitment to watch.
Re. BGT, it will come back but I doubt it will reverse the decline it's been in.

Honestly, I don’t think any scheduling would have saved this - it just doesn’t work like the singing version does. All the guessing has to be done on the clues, and the dance itself becomes a bit of a distraction, unlike Masked Singer where the song is arguably the biggest clue as you’re listening out for any telltale signs in their voice.
As a result I don’t think there’s as much fun in the guessing as you’re totally reliant on the clue packages and no one is hanging on to the next episode to see the next performance because ultimately it’s not going to tel them anything more about the person in the mask.
The only thing that might save it IMO is a massive name reveal, which might get people watching in case there’s another one later in the series

I agree - would have done better than Game of Talents on Saturdays and ITV don't particularly need it this week considering they have shows at 9.30pm most nights which otherwise would air at 9pm with 7-9 blocked out by soaps as usual.
That said The Masked Dancer is doing a job for ITV and by using a spin-off, which it was inevitable they'd air as some point, they're not risking the main brand as much as if they'd just aired another series of The Masked Singer.

Think I’ve said it before but The Masked Dancer allows them to widen the pool of potential celebs. Not all would sing but I’d imagine more are willing to dance.
Agree it’s tougher but it makes the reveals all that more of a surprise.

A hell of a lot more of a commitment doing this rather than Singer as they’d have to do a lot more rehearsals and learn all the choreography for several routines rather than just learning the lyrics to a load of songs you already know. Presumably they had to film this over a longer period rather than the two weeks Singer takes as learning all of the routines must have taken longer.

Fair to say Jordan Banjo was robbed with the two acts he lost out to back in the bottom two. I guess though there is a bit of a factor of whether they've rumbled them when choosing who goes. Not much fun keeping acts in when you are pretty certain who they are.
