The Chase & Beat the Chasers
#31
Larry Emdur takes over as host of The Chase Australia from Monday and they're slightly strangely launching with half-hour episodes for during the Olympics. The half-hour format sees 2 players each take on the cashbuilder, the highest scoring player take on the chaser for the combined total from the cashbuilders and then the final chase as normal. I think it's a bit weird to launch with the weird format so looking forward to the full length shows post Olympics.

They've made some set updates including a new question podium and the LED screens in the floor recently added to the UK set. Mark hasn't been out to Australia to film any episodes so not sure if he'll still feature in the line-up at the start while The Tiger Mum seems to be full time now. They've also changed The Supernerd's costume a bit based on the clips below so will be interesting to see whether they've changed any of the others' too.

Channel 7 have been showing some clips on The Morning Show:

Yes, would surely have made more sense to promote it heavily during the games then launch it the week after - or perhaps the Sunday when there is a lull in action in the hours before the Closing Ceremony.

The Spanish version of Beat the Chasers "La noche de los cazadores" is airing soon.

The Night of the Hunters? Why isn't it called something that actually translates to the English name? i.e. Defeat the Hunters?

The 6th Chaser added pretty seamlessly and really rewards those getting all 5 questions right. Not sure 60 seconds on both clocks is fair though when going first, as the contestant usually does, is a disadvantage.

Interesting to see a full audience back too in the arena, presumably Millionaire will be back to having one next series

The audience helps with the atmosphere on Beat the Chasers, and I’m glad to see them back. The way that they’ve integrated the sixth chasers is a clever play in the concept.

Looking at the Spanish version, unlike ours it appears that they’re consistent on a font/family of fonts for the graphics.

Although I agree on the inclusion of all six chasers and think the new gameplay changes are for the good. There is part of me that makes me think the Chasers now all seem a bit too distant so I think it loses something as well.

I agree. Also I assume they still mix and match games for each episode but of the 5 (I think) games last night Paul wasn't in the 5 for 3 of them.

Didn't seem to be as many cutaways to The Chasers either - in the first couple of series you mainly got them with Jenny and Shaun, with Jenny and Daragh last series.

P.S. Also noteable that Gala Bingo used their old sponsorship stings whilst the daytime shows have had new ones for a few weeks now.

Yes - I went to watch in the audience when this series was filmed. I thought we watched a full episode but on last night’s show, we saw the lady at the end filmed but none of the others.

I think they probably do a similar thing for The Cube.

The Cube (used to anyway) film 2 contestants per audience but did then mix and match for TV

In fact the two I were in the audience for were split across two…series for some reason!

The only problem with The Cube is they seemed to ditch the idea of rollover contestants a while ago so if you read the TV listings it can be a bit of a spoiler as to if there are going to be any >£50,000 winners as they usually dedicate an entire episode to those

Does Bradley change his suit so not to give away that they mix and match or is the same suit throughout,

I think he wears the same suit throughout with the red pocket handkerchief.

Suppose it saves on having to wear a different suit every time like they do on other shows.

Speaking of suits and this is completely off-topic, I find it strange that shows like The Chase and Tipping Point with 100s of episodes require the presenter to change suits between episode recordings, surely no one would notice if they wore the same suit if they spread the episodes out.
