Luckily the commentators are in Salford so were able to play continuity announcer for a while before reading some viewer's tweets.

Interesting that the slate shown when the feed disappears is BBC News branded, although as it's never supposed to make it to air that's not a big deal.

I also feel like it would be a shame to not mention the Panorama breakdown, considering it lasted quite an amount of time and had an 11-page thread on TVF within hours of it occuring.

Did anybody work out what caused this mess?

As far as I know, no. I think at one point they were speculating about something on BBC NIs end (because the VT clock at the start), but there really isn't any proof there.

A computer (running Windows NT 4.0 in this clip) was playing the closedown slides for S4C and the machine itself was being "closed down"

What would have caused this to occur?

Was somebody powering off all the systems for the night and they accidentally switched off the very computer that was on air?

(Also, turn down your volume at the end.)

Wow, I've never seen that ever! :o

I'm just wondering, was that the only time something like that happened, or did it happen with other channels too?

I'm fairly sure in the other place the conclusion was it was down to a late edit in Belfast, and the file was transfered to playout with a corrupted time code that upset the playout systems.

Interesting that the breakdown music was an instrumental version of Central's "Let's Get Together" image promotion from that era.

Never seen that caption before, I'm assuming that came from whatever ITV company that was recorded from rather than Video Visuals.

Wasn't it around 1996 when The Chart Show was played out "live"? I wouldn't have thought they'd have control over breakdown captions during that era.

I remember Yorkshire playing the extended instrumental of the 1989 ident "Get Ready for ITV" during a breakdown.

Makes sense, considering YTV took or adapted pretty much every part of generic pres until 1994

BBC 1 has a bit of trouble here and the movie will just have to wait.

Did someone mess up the booking again?
the Monday after the last Sunday in October? It's a fairly safe bet that this was a clock change issue. Looks like they tried to cover it up on +1 but something went a bit wrong with that too.
