Generally if you have decent people looking to provide a service rather than an agenda then the only problem you run into is generally financial.

GB News could actually have got some good PR out of the stunt on Tuesday but ultimately a lack of professionalism and self awareness has exposed them for what they really are. They've doubled down on appealing to those who oppose an anti-racism statement at a time when even their press equivalents are at least paying lip-service to condemning the disgusting racism seen in the fallout of the Euros final.

I think it is important to highlight again that the act of taking the knee and discussions around the choice of an individual to do it, and people committing racism are two very different things, and having objection to taking the knee does not mean you agree with those committing racism or disagree with efforts to stop it.

The presenter on GB News took the knee on screen which is outside the boundaries of what is expected of a news source. GB News tried to say this last night but didn't manage it.

A presenter taking the knee is outside GBN’s rules but a presenter accusing scientists of lying and likening mandatory vaccinations of care staff to North Korea isn’t?

There has to be a balance. If booing our own football players for taking the knee and presenters stating that that behaviour is free speech, then likewise it must be free speech/expression to take the knee.

I didn't say GB News rules, I said "The presenter on GB News took the knee on screen which is outside the boundaries of what is expected of a news source."

It is fine to state you agree with taking the knee on screen verbally, or you don't agree etc, but to actually do it, the physical act of taking the knee on screen crosses the line in my book.

Equally if a presenter started loudly booing on screen at pictures of England players, I'd expect them to get the same treatment. I just think it isn't professional.

If a presenter made false claims as you allege, Ofcom may investigate. I believe no complaint has been successful yet.

As stated earlier in this thread, I was ambivalent towards taking the knee until they went for Rashford, Saka, and Sancho - our boys, our players, our countrymen.

I am now inclined towards it however, Brekkie, please do not conflate those who oppose a symbol with those who oppose what the symbol represents.

FWIW, the NHS are heroes. They saved my life last year. I discovered that I had Stage 2 kidney cancer and I was operated on 8 weeks later after there was blood in my wee and given the all clear 3 weeks after that. What amazing men and women.

However, I felt (and still would feel) uncomfortable with the Thursday night clapping.

I hated it - I hate it when society deems support for something as being contingent on performing an action when those actions may feel personally uncomfortable to people.

Ever since I was a boy, conformity through societal pressure horrifies me personally.

But it isn’t a news source. We are talking about a channel/programme which claims to support free speech, expression and all views.

Again, would you say it is acceptable for a presenter of a news channel to state mandatory vaccines for care staff makes England akin to North Korea?

If yes, then a presenter on the same channel can take knee.

GBN has to pick - is it a news channel and the presenters are balanced or is it a place for debate where presenters present their opinions? If the latter then go right ahead… maybe Julia Hartley Brewer and Richard Littlejohn can replace those who have been sacked or have left.

Neither option is wrong (as long as within Ofcom rules) but the channel’s problem is that it wants to be both and as and when it suits. As long as it does that it’s destined to fail.
I am trying hard to keep this topic open for discussion, the majority of which this week has been within the guidelines, but some of you are really starting to try my patience. I have tried countless times to ask you all to stick to the presentation aspects of the channel, but some of you are not listening to me.

If you want to talk politics, go to Metropol (or another site if you can't access Metropol) - THIS IS NOT A POLITICS FORUM.

Most members of this forum seem to be able to grasp the rules about what is acceptable to post on this forum, and what is not. It is a massive shame that some of you continue to push your political ideologies on this forum with flagrant disregard for the rules.

The issue regarding Guto Harri is worth discussing as a presentation point, but not if you're going to begin a rant about being "woke" and "taking the knee" - that has nothing to do with television presentation, which is why we're all here in the first place.

This is the final warning I'll be giving on this thread. Either stick to the presentation aspects of the channel, or I will close this thread and ban any further discussion of this channel on the forum. That's the last thing I want to do, but at the moment, some of you are really giving me no alternative.
I'm on Andover Radio every Saturday afternoon from 4pm-6pm. Follow me on Twitter.

The next? Has anyone gone already? He was on the GBB this morning reviewing the papers.

Will there be anyone left by the end of the month?

Sounds painful, and have to wonder given what seems to be going on behind the scenes if he'll return. I'd have thought Guto would be a likely candidate to be his stand in as well.

Simon and Alex just had a veiled dig at the Guardian on air
John mcandrew has quit as Head of programmes at gb news

GB News is a news source, although not a very good one.

I don't think it is acceptable for a presenter to lie on screen.

As I said the channel is giving out very mixed messages.

Exactly. We know that Sky Sports commentators are supportive of taking the knee (unless their bosses instruct them to be), but if the coverage included in-vision shots of the likes of Martin Tyler on one knee, it wouldn't be acceptable.

I think they will struggle now to attract people who have comfortable roles elsewhere - they've arguably done more damage the last few days than with all the technical issues in week one as they had just about recovered from the initial launch issues and any initial fall out. The worry now too is if reports are to be believed it's the people who have more experience in running such operations who are first to walk out the door. Now as I've said before people leaving new channels in their early days isn't exactly unusual for a variety of reasons but the problem GB News will have is attracting adequate replacements if the view is that the owners effectively want puppets running the channel to satisfy their own whims.

Well, that in isolation whilst surprising, wouldn't be too damaging.... but with Gill Penlington also reportedly on her way too, and there are suddenly concerning signs of internal strife - those are two really rather senior positions heading out the door in quick fashion.

The first to leave a sinking ship? Or the first to leave because they don't agree with the direction? I would suggest that it's possibly neither. I would think they are frustrated with the tools they have been given to run an 18-hour live channel, along with the lack of resources needed.

So what else can we say about it other than it happened if it can only be discussed as a presentation point?

This channel has willfully made itself a political animal, it's part of their presentation. If that can't be discussed, then well, why is this thread open?
