I get filling hours on TalkTV with the radio but makes little sense the other way round unless it is content designed for both.

Piers is the Prince of Spin, a news channel showing rolling news isn’t comparable in the slightest to a show that is opinion.

As I’ve said, he has form for doing this. Used to use GMB’s peak to say they beat BBC Breakfast even though Breakfast won overall.

So what is it comparable to? It’s sat in the news section of the TV guide. We’re not exactly going to compare it with Corrie are we?

It's certainly a YouTube issue as the TalkTV app stream is perfect.

Roy Martin, the editor of radio industry news site RadioToday posted this opinion piece on 'eradio' today which looks at the relaunched tv/radio hybrid from a radio perspective.

Watching the launch and first couple of days of TalkTV, I have to say it's an entertaining and informative service.

As a TV station, it feels fresher than the others, with more energy, despite its 80s American TV graphics package which looks like it was bought on Fiverr.

I love the top of hour news updates and the handovers between presenters.

But if I was the PD of TalkRadio, I would not be happy.

My radio station is not a radio station anymore. Sure, there are occasional mentions of TalkRadio but most of the time my radio service is known as a television station.

I don't have a Twitter account or Facebook page. I don't even have a website with the schedule on. My socials have been rebranded and taken away.

My presenters are working in a TV studio. They need to dress up for their radio show. They don't even wear headphones anymore.

The branding is confusing. This morning I was listening to Talk Breakfast on TalkTV from the studios of TalkRadio.

When the radio presenters are on, we are referred to as listeners. When the TV shows are on, we are called viewers.

There are no split idents. "TalkTV News at 10" could easily be "TalkRadio News at 10" for radio listeners.

The weather forecaster refers to the map "take a look at this cloud footage" and reporters don't appear to realise the majority of their audience is listening on the radio "You're watching The News Desk". No, I'm in the car listening to the radio.

I'm not sure if those are little things that will be picked up on and fixed, or whether anyone actually cares about them. Is it a TV station? Is it a radio station? Is it a crazy hybrid with an identity crisis already? I'm not sure anyone knows.

I think calling it TalkTV was the start of the confusion. I'd have gone with one simple brand available across all platforms.

By Week 5, it will probably be The Vengaboys being interviewed. Sarcasm.

The Talk would(sarcasm again) probably end up revamped too, with Debra Lawrance (or even Carole Malone) , Shaggy of Oh Carolina etc fame, Abi Titmuss and Rebecca Loos if they really were desperate for ratings and publicity.

I wonder what sort of connectivity they have for outside sources, News UK have had their own BT local ends in the past, presumably they followed them to their current building and that's how they're managing decent quality feeds of Parliament

I'm very reliably informed the main cameras in the chamber are now native HD, and so is the tx feed to the broadcasters. The pictures hardly sparkle though,  must be the subdued lighting!

I think ialso an important factor to remember they were starting from a much stronger position than GBN where. Most of the content was already there with talkRADIO. Whereas GBN had to start from everything scratch and without the basic template. The other 20 hours of the day have had a bit of a polish but basically they had a format that worked for them already and from that they only had to create three made for TV programmes. And they also already had all the things like the news gathering and reporters at their disposal. 

The other factor is that GB News had some high profile transfers from Sky and the BBC. Then they put their cannons firmly on the lawns of those broadcasters and hyped up that they were out to get them. They were openly antagonistic towards the BBC and Sky. When it launched it all went horribly wrong and there was a great deal of schadenfreude.

Talk was a lot more low key and didn't go down that route. The only people they poached from other broadcasters were behind the scenes. They haven't come up with a whole TV channel but only a handful of new programmes and all the publicity has gone into Piers Morgans programme. That is the thing that the channel amd its reputation will lie or die on, no one cares about the rest of it
