I like them a lot but I do kind of wish they had a little more personality to them… considering the BBC HD idents had a similar kind of vibe/concept they were a lot more bouncy and I would’ve liked to see more of that for stuff like light entertainment.
Regardless - quite pretty.

OK, so I'm going to back down a little bit...!
Having seen a bit more of them, I'm going up from my original 4/10 to 6/10 - maybe even 7/10.
My original main issue was that the lens effect was over to quick, leaving the rest of the ident as Oneness. Having seen more use, in most cases this doesn't happen as they've cut to the programme soon after the lens disappears. I still think that another cycle of the lens effect later in the ident would be better for times when its on screen for longer.
I'd also not really noticed the revolving nature, which as others have pointed out, really does hark back to the rotating globes of the 1970s and 1980s.
I think the biggest problem was that I based my initial views on the first ident show - which ironically is clearly their worst as the three scenes are barely noticeably from the same location. Bench does this wonderfully and I think is the best of the lot.
I still think for it to make an 8/10 or 9/10 more needs to be made of the lens - it needs to be more etherial, more lens-like, rather than a simple circular cut-out. And I do miss a musical motif.
From what i have seen of the new idents so far i like them they are much better than oneness

I mentioned yesterday that these new idents put me in mind of ITV's 2013 ident set, however, something else hit me this evening...

It's even referred to as 'Bench' in the title of the video!
Add some 'lens' effects and you're looking at a very similar outcome.

It feels like a concept we've seen before, and not just with BBC HD, but I can't quite place it.

Back when we had circled there was a loop that would play when local news would come up on HD that would have the idents wirhout the music play. Is there a version of that wirh this set yet?

Since the rebrand in October 2021, the HD holding screen doesn't use idents in the background anymore. It's just an animated, pink-ish background.
With the soothing sound of sea crashing to shore. Much better, although technically, 14 years after BBC One HD launched, there really should be TV pictures rather than a holding screen.
