Keep seeing suggestions of 26th august in uk although 3rd has also been mentioned . Ireland will be 1 day later - Australia currently 4 nights screen v uk 5 will put it around 5 or 6 weeks later and New Zealand around a fortnight later still. It is possible stitching together various comments in various sources that at current screening rates it will be over in all 4 markets come November - what other countries show it and how far behind are they?

Belgium but I think they about two years behind.

This news is bad luck for VTM2 - they only started airing the show nine months ago.

The Turkish show, Komsular, appears to have only run for six weeks at the end of 2017 on the Turkish version of FOX. Website's still up for now, though since it's Fox and most channels outside the US with that name have rebranded or closed due to Disney buying them, I doubt it'll stay up much longer.

I find it strange that Neighbours got remade in places like Turkey and Italy, surely you could come up with something similar without having to license the original format?

That seems to happen so often though - shows remaking other formats which as you say are surely generic enough to not require such a licence, especially when they significantly move away from the original premise as US remake often do. Maybe there is honesty amongst TV producers, but ultimately most suburban soaps are essentially remakes of Corrie.

By licensing the format, you're essentially - from what I understand - getting the IP of the show, so can build off of scripts (even if they need to translated), characters, etc that have been fleshed out. It makes a bit more sense in a show like 'The Office' but it can help get a show up and running a lot quicker than having to start from scratch.

Licensing also avoids any legal issues when the original concept owners hear of a foreign show about neighbours and want to clip the ticket.

Probably. Not everyone who leaves a soap goes on to become a big name actor in other TV shows and movies. If they audition for a few jobs and don't get anywhere, they'd need an income and would have to get a normal job. Happens a lot.

In many cases where people have been tied to a long term role they suddenly find opportunities they never really thought were a possibility suddenly open up once they become available. It may not be anything they or us as viewers expect, but I suspect for many this will be a blessing in disguise.

Although Aussie commercial TV is pretty weak when it comes to drama now there has been a significant increase in the number of international productions being filmed in the country so although they won't just walk into new jobs the opportunities are certainly there, and I suspect having Neighbours on your CV nowadays is far more of a help than a hindrance.

The only way Australia is going to get back in line with the UK episodes is if they increase to 6 a week whilst we stay at 5. Either that or the UK takes a break which would push back the final episode even further. It was a silly idea for Australia to remain at 4 per week once the UK caught up by Christmas.

It was only in January that C5 jumped ahead so there isn't a huge amount to catch up on if they switch sooner rather than later - a couple of weeks of double episodes should do it.

It may happen. Last I heard Elaine Smith (Daphne Clarke) works now as a teacher.

A rebrand seems more likely, as (in contrast to the other international versions of Fox) Fox in Turkey is a free-to-air general entertainment channel, featuring, among other things, a news service and a schedule comprised chiefly of locally-produced series. (The Turkish version of FX, on pay-TV providers, serves the purpose of showing US fare in the vein of the other Fox channels.) It originated as TGRT in 1993 before News Corporation bought it in 2006 and rebranded it to Fox (the TGRT name continues as news channel TGRT Haber).

Many of the cast in the Aussie soaps seem to be on 3 year contracts, which is why they often have a high turnover in cast. Apart from the actors who play the likes of Karl, Susan, Paul, Toadie etc who have been there years. Many like Ben Hall have come to the end of their 3 years and were leaving anyway. I have heard that Chris (Kyle) was planning on leaving too.
