Is any of the commentary that we hear on BBC One and BBC Two ‘world feed’ or BBC specific?

World Feed, there is no bbc specific commentary now afaik. The reason being, every time Sue [or another presenter] throws to the commentators, there is zero acknowledgement of “thanks Sue/presenter, you join us …”. The bbc simply enters the commentary at the most opportune moment in play to make it natural.

Also, many of the pundits and commentators move around broadcasters, and are not specifically doing bbc duties, an example includes John McEnroe doing punditry for US sports broadcasters. I believe there was a female pundit on the bbc for Saturday’s ladies singles final just before the match started who provided a little punditry before rushing off to a us broadcaster, but i didn’t catch their name to be able to know who it was.

All of the commentary is technically World Feed, although clearly despite no longer being the host broadcast the BBC must have considerable influence over that.

Indeed, all the presenters, pundits and commentators they announce on the bbc website for their wimbledon coverage are basically for the world feed coverage, with the additional bbc specific off-feed presenting/punditry some of them do. They are also probably involved in some way with providing technical broadcast support in the form of camera people and directors, though camera people are only required for a number of big courts, most outer courts use fixed robotic cameras now.

Like you say the BBC must still have considerable influence, if not organising the commentary teams on the AELTC’s behalf, as it’s still the same BBC names on the same high profile matches, and the on court interviewers also work for the BBC generally. It’s pretty hard to see where the BBC ends and where the host broadcaster begins as it’s all pretty seemless.

McEnroe used to appear on those BBC salary lists although that may have been before COVID when it was all still BBC in house

A good send off for Sue and it will be interesting to see what happens with Today at Wimbledon next year.

I've watched the 6 min Sue Barker montage on the BBC Sport website, however is there a record of the actual BBC 1 broadcast between the end of that montage, and the closing credits ?   iplayer only seems to have the raw match coverage from yesterday, and not the presented BBC 1 show ?

Being more radical, if I were in charge of the coverage, I think that I would block Wimbledon in on BBC One until 10pm, fill with highlights if necessary between end of play and the close of the programme, but not have a TV programme called Today at Wimbledon at all. Instead, make Today at Wimbledon an iPlayer exclusive that need not have a host/pundits at all - have it as an hour edit of the best of the action, linked together either by voiceover or by text on screen. Clip up some of the other punditry and throw it into the mix if necessary. I’m not sure if I’m explaining this very well, but I can see in my head what it would be like…!

Doesn't even need to be a programme - just put together 5-10 minute highlights of some of the key matches of the day for viewers to watch on demand.   It's something they used to do but just looking now it seems the online video content is either full replays, very short highlights or mainly short fun packages of little substance.   Sadly since the BBC Sport TV app was closed in it's own right on demand short form video content isn't quite what it was a few years ago.

Similarly they used to fill dead airtime between matches and overnights on the red button with a looped news feed rounding up the action but that has long gone too.

Hmmm, I know we all approach these things differently in how we want to view them, but I do feel that a ‘curated’ 1 hour (or so) highlights programme is a really useful way of viewing Wimbledon. Much as Match of the Day still has a purpose in the world of (legal) YouTube edits of matches straight after the final whistle, I think that there are plenty of people who might not necessarily know which match edit to grab from iPlayer (or the Sport website/app) but would be happy to sit in front of an hour’s programme that shows the ‘best’ of the day, whether that be the storylines involving the big-name players, the British players, notable upsets, particularly exciting/noteworthy matches, etc.

I fully accept that I am totally projecting my own viewing preferences onto this suggestion (I would find such a programme very very useful, and am totally happy for it to be available exclusively on-demand), but I suspect that I am not the only person in this boat. Indeed, whilst I’ve seen very little coverage this Wimbledon fortnight (it being a very busy fortnight at work, and with my attention drawn to cricket rather than tennis whenever I’ve had a spare moment), it appears that there hasn’t been such a programme available either in a linear fashion or on-demand, apart from the days when Today at Wimbledon was shown.

Making Today at Wimbledon an iPlayer-exclusive consistent package gives the viewer something that is currently lacking from the coverage, and doesn’t take anything away from the viewer without the inclination to find such a programme on-demand, should the live coverage morph into the showing of highlights within its scheduled slot once live action has finished, as has been the case this year anyway.

Notice also that John McEnroe was once again on the BBC salary list so he must be paid by the BBC. I’d assume that was for all his on air work including commentary rather than just the chats before/after match.

I would guess the BBC provide a number of commentators to Wimbledon Broadcast Services (likely for the show courts) and WBS then fill the lower profile slots.

Yeah it’s the same commentators on the world feed  it’s very seamless it’s hard to tell who does what now.

It’s a great question it’s like Premier League Productions do they produce the feeds or the likes of bbc and Sky because what’s distributed now even has PLP branded sound sync tests.

It’s a great question it’s like Premier League Productions do they produce the feeds or the likes of bbc and Sky because what’s distributed now even has PLP branded sound sync tests.

Whoever is the host (Sky, BT, BBC or Amazon) produces the clean match feed, and hands it off to PLP to add their own pres (including that sync test) and for distribution.
