TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread
I did spot an ad break freezing during Frasier this morning, and eventually just cut to the next advert. Looks like not everything's as it should be still.

EDIT: Crashed to the ads

EDIT, EDIT: ads have finished and it's gone back to the frozen image of Dane Baptiste again...
No offence to you in particular but when something like this happens, why can't it be put into a new thread? Why do people feel everything needs to be put in existing threads?

There is already a thread for it. The Red Bee one.

Here is a BBC One breakdown during the golf at Wentworth in 2009. Also, interesting to note they played the idents music at the time instead of the breakdown music.

Also, here is the old TV Forum thread of the breakdown: https://tvforum.uk/tvhome/bbc-one-golf-b...n-23-29596.
On Friday morning TVNZ's Breakfast program failed to make it to air due to a fire alarm and evacuation of the building This lead to TVNZ 1 crashing into BBC World News after Breakfast's sponsor sting. World was shown for approx 15 with a TVNZ apology strap occasionally popping up.

TVNZ used to use BBC World as overnight filler, but hasn't for quite a long time now, so its a rare treat for those without Sky.

I find it strange that some of the international channels are using BBC World News as a backup solution if any of their programmes fail.

But does kinda show how important the BBC is and how much regard its still held in.

I think there are a couple of things that work in its favor as a replacement program
  • As most of the output of World is news, it's likely to be considered "safe" content, so can be shown pre-watershed, and can also generally be relied upon to cover major events anywhere in a timely manner, which is what viewers would expect in place of a show like Breakfast.
  • In an emergency scenario, when you've limited time to evacuate, I imagine its much easier to take World and leave it running, than it is to make playlist changes, and then hope you're back in the building before you're out of standby content.

Here's one from the era of CITV having pre-recorded continuity so being unable to respond to breakdowns. The programme didn't break down as such but got pulled off air for a few minutes with no apparent fault. The only thing I can think of is the audio level was a bit low.

Write that down in your copybook now

The audio appears to be playing a bit fast then slow to my ears, but that said I was looking for a “fault”. I doubt anyone watching would have noticed - if indeed there was anything to notice.

Thank you for noticing this notice. Your noticing it has been noticed.
THE NEXT POST FOLLOWS SHORTLY
Jeremy Vine vanished for around 5 minutes at 9:35 to be replaced by TJC Beauty. Output seem to just switch immediately with Channel 5 dog in tact.
