Has a newsreader ever not made it through a programme

She was acting as the newsreader on this occasion and got partway through her bulletin before handing over to Susanna to finish off. She was replaced (openly, and convivially, on air) by Louisa James in time for the next news update.

* Christ. How sad is it that I know the exact date of this? :?

I'm surprised you didn't take the chance to share your own video.

Watching it back, embarrassment over how weirdly poor the audio quality is, perhaps. Pleased to confirm that things have improved on that front in the intervening seven years.
"Good evening. Dull, grey, cold, miserable - and that's just me. The weather hasn't been great, either."

Nine O’clock News 1982. John Humphrys was the newsreader. Defense Correspondent Christopher Wain was sitting alongside him and was supposed to present an insert piece.

Camera came to Wain who tried to speak but was unable to do so, and appeared to slump in his seat.

Humphrys took over the voicing of the report and could be seen intermittently between VT reading from a paper script.

“That report was by Christopher Wain. He was unable to read it himself”.
<t>I taught them everything......</t>

This wasn’t a takeover during a programme, but UTV’s Julian Simmons did present the UTV Live late news at one point 14 years ago due to illness.

This was during the era where regional headlines were included in the ITV News at 10:30 headlines but I’m not sure if the UTV headlines were broadcast this evening and whether they came from the original presenter or Julian.

Wow! That’s what I came here for! Clearly he was ok in the end as I remember him being around after that. Wasn’t he transport correspondent afterwards?

Didn't a presenter on ITV have a 'hypo' towards the end of the Evening News?

Rohit Kachroo had an issue whilst reporting on the Evening News, with Mary cutting back to the studio.

Ah I think that was it - all I remember is people on twitter talking about it and wishing him well (and berating the people who thought he was drunk) - I just assumed he was presenting for some reason.

Nicholas Witchell couldn't complete his live hit a few years ago: https://youtu.be/gfaTCbLZwZA

And Iain Watson suffering from a bout of Mary Nightingale's ITN cough. https://youtu.be/bg4YjF-xCQI
As seen on BBC Newswatch

Of course there is the time News at Ten was pulled due to a fire alarm, but then that's nothing really to do with the newsreader

Talking of fire alarms there was one during world business report recently which meant they had to cut it short and cut to click if I remember correctly.

I'm always surprised that newsreaders try and struggle through the news when they're clearly not well.

Nick Witchell actually dealt with that really well. I’ve forgot what I was saying, back to the studio! We all have brain farts!

I forget the detail but a BBC Local Radio presenter had to abandon his show and go home to self isolate having been pinged by the NHS Covid app
Write that down in your copybook now
