Not sure, that's not something I remember seeing on the BBC.

On ITV however....

Turns out they were for cueing in pre recorded scenes, which there were a lot of because of the child actor involved.

(Although of course ITV used cue dots the opposite way to the BBC. ITV for cueing the end of programmes/parts, the BBC for cueing the start of a programmel

I'm thinking more of topical programmes or sport that used non TVC editing facilities, where they couldn't get the tape to TVC in time so played it down the line into pres directly from the edit suite. I know these days such programmes are treated in the same way as a live programme, although I guess back then most things used London VT facilities.

STV have posted up the first post-1989 generic Grampian ident. Off-air recordings of this one have been elusive, so it's good to have a high quality copy of it:

Odd seeing the two logos together, it's almost as if they took the STV triangle from that version of the Grampian logo

Funny to think the David Dundas ITV theme survived not only into the Digital era, but into the new millennium, even if only for 2 months if it.

With a creepier looking Digit Al. I can see why they changed that later on.

Funny revelation of why New Broadcasting House always looked dirty

Am I the only one who doesn't enteirly buy that reason with the cladding being installed upside down?
Looking at the cladding on NBH it looks like no matter which way it was installed it would still collect Manchester rainwater on the cladding.

More of a case of already grey bricks made worse, by facing Oxford Road pollution for 40 odd years.

It's probably more accurate that economising in materials during construction lead to a more susceptible to filth product being used. It appeared as though it needed a good jet-wash in the mid 1980s.

Pebble Mill looked similarly filthy towards its end (though did stand up better than Oxford Road, presumably as it wasn't facing straight out onto a main-road, was set back a bit and surrounded by trees) - I often wonder if letting them get dirty and not sorting it was to make them look more dilapidated than they already were.

Rumours like the above float around all buildings in any large organisation.

Believe what was the TV-am studio now no longer exists. The building was sold to MTV in 1993, extensively refurbished a few years ago and the eggcups on the roof are the only legacy of TV-am at that building, since the facade that was stuck there on the front of the building in the 1980s was covered up and then removed.

There is studio space AFAIK in the (current) building, just probably not as much. Studio A in the TV-am days was something like 3k square feet and a smaller one 300 square feet. Don't think MTV needed that much and I suspect they built offices on the original grounds of the studios.
