Sky News: 2021 Refresh
#16
The UK Total Doses strap is really annoying, it keeps changing length as it scrolls through the data.

The safe zone is absolutely massive!

The changes are minor, but where they have been made, I feel they are improvements. I didn't really have any issues with the old graphics, but these new ones seem to be a nice refresh of those, with elements like the ticker being far clearer and easier to read.

It’s all a bit clunky. Never a fan of too much animation and the straps are just a bit too slow to animate on. Could all be a lot more discreet. TOTH was pretty slick.

I agree. It was much better before with the fixed size and little animation. It doesn't even seem as relevant now as it did in January, right?

It will be interesting to see how this works with breaking news.

As expected, a damp squib. Nothing burger.

I'm sure I will be in the minority but I think it looks awful

TOTH is even less visually engaging than the previous one which was less than the previous one

The new music is boring, quiet and goes nowhere

The lower third graphics feel like something from 15 years ago. I don't mind the larger ticker but not a fan of the condensed font and the big waste of space at the top and bottom of the text on the main strap

The vaccination tracker is just a white rectangle with big text that animates like a PowerPoint slide with a slight fade as the bar gets bigger or smaller

A splash of colour on the screens for Breakfast but no mention of the shows USP this morning being live from the heart of Westminster. At least the previous background had depth now its just some shimmering lines. They could be anywhere

White, white, white graphics with a splash of red

on the 2 way boxes 50% of the screen is flat with white. I was never a fan of what I called the white moving blob but now we have nothing of depth or interest. I do like the little splash of colour at the top of the screen though which will be different for each programme strand

On a positive note they have kept the Sky News signature swooshes

I get the feeling that Sky have lost all interest in their news channel. It has become so tired and bland in both its look and presentation style. It's lacking energy and authority. The majority of the presenters look uninterested in what they are doing.

I had hoped that imminent launch of GB News would give them a reason to up their game, but it doesn't appear to have been the case.

I do love the Sky Headline typeface so I’m glad they’re using that more. It’s also good that the straps are different for Breakfast, though similar colour to the Daily Climate Show straps. I presume they’re just going with Breakfast as a name now?

I quite like it, I knew what I was expecting from the climate show, and it pretty much matches. The music was a shock, I remember talk of a remix, but I didn’t expect it to be that different.

I do like the animated backgrounds straps, allowing the programme brands to be incorporated further and item specific graphics (ie Virus Pandemic) expanding to the full bar rather than just confined to a small square as they were before.

Like the update to the TOTH sequence, simple but really effective with the animation and details like the visualiser for the Sky News Daily podcast. The only thing I didn’t expect was the clock being inverted, I was still imagining it being white on black, but it definitely looks cleaner.

Definitely evolution and not revolution.

But I never like it when the ticker strap goes right to the bottom of the screen which, of course, the old one did as well (as did BBC News between 2008 and 2012 I believe).

I am not really a fan. They seem to be trying to return a bit to the big and brash of 2010 but only got half way there.... And the upper case?? someone has been looking at the GB news rehearsals! Or maybe GB news had a look. (Edit: I didn't even notice it has always been upper case, that size of the font!)

And amazingly as I type breaking news has appeared and it isn't in upper case????

News-channels in general have a questionale future, while there is always a space for rolling news at big events and breaking news. Comcast as part of the deal when it took Sky was to keep Sky News funded for 10 years. So up until 2027.
