The New ABC

By looking at the logo. They did most of the work in the mid-80s to be fair but neatened it up a year or two ago. Sure they had a promo video too showing the evolution.

It's worth waiting to see how it looks with the presentation on screen. 8-)

I'm excited myself to see how all this plays out on-air. All I've seen is how all the elements look - and not how they move

And will ABC bring back the ident before its programmes just like CBS?

To be fair NBC open ident before each show, and a voice over behind every credit. But that’s about it. They do technically have network branded snipes, which NBC has some backronym for. If you don’t know they’re basically the ads that come up on screen showing upcoming programming - usually the 11 (or 10PM) newscasts. NBC has a template that’s supposed to be used which is translucent enough but covers up say the bottom 10% of the show.
But most stations use a version of their current graphics that may go up to 15%, these times are usually preplanned or triggered by GPI from the network where it won’t interfere with anything major on screen.

I can’t find anything local, but here’s an example of a snipe of the network promoting the website. More recently they’ve been promoting (Boss Baby 2 In Theaters and Peacock) soon.

They actually made a joke about it in Tracy Morgan’s SNL monologue a few years back....

That’s basically the extent of NBC primetime presentation. It’s all about squeezing those ad dollars.

But they do provide affiliates promos that they can air in their newscasts, called a promo swap, where instead of a promo of another show in primetime news can be promoted. I think the promos in news include a general schedule bumper at the end. But most stations including the O&Os will replace it with there own graphics and leave a voice over.

OK, now I've GOTTA see it when it arrives

Idents should be bought back more often, come to think of it, after all, they make you remember where you're watching this show

Yep, they seem to be back again... Thanks to Netflix making viewers think of them rather than the broadcaster the programme originated from.

The CW, NBC, CBS have 5 second idents before shows. I think FOX tends to have a warning slide (Viewer Discretion advised) before shows, but they have a 5 second primetime opener lineup menu.

Haha yeh pretty much. Loved the one with Andy Dick in it too - but as you alluded to, lack of content is ultimately what led to the demise of the channel. It's a shame really because I do feel if they'd had more different content, which being abc they surely had by the bucket load (although I guess a lot of the rights to more current stuff would be with other broadcasters at the time), the channel could have been a much bigger success. Anyhow, we've veered majorly off topic

I used to watch ABC1 a lot, it was a brilliant channel for Freeview (in it’s infancy) and had quite a few good shows that had not been seen over here before (Hope & Faith for example), but as described above content seem to dry up.

Don’t judge me, I bought the box set recently. Wink

I suspect for many of us here the unique to British TV approach to presentation and placement of ads were what got us watching the likes of 8 Simple Rules. It just felt so unique in those early days of Freeview.
