when you say the looped countdown runs on the servers, does this mean that it is constantly being played on a loop, and you can't start or stop the video? You just cut or mix to the countdown on the vision mixer or whatever?

Or does the countdown file live on the servers, and you call it up and hit play? Sorry if my question sounds unclear, but wondered if it played linearly or non-linearly, and whether you cut to the countdown at the appropriate mix or cut point?

It’s looped on a server source 24/7 and you mix to and from it as you need to. The same clip is also available on demand and can be cued up on demand and left looping until something else is cued on that source. So the answer to your question is sort of yes to both...!

Yet another week and part weekend of Shaun Ley and Burak and im heading elsewhere. It’s obviously a personal opinion but she is totally overrated ans Shaun, even though he’s been with the BBC for decades just doesn’t do it for me.

Seeing Derbyshire this morning as part of the morning changes was great! I just fail to see the value in Burak and Ley - when 1. They’ve worked all week, 2, how about promoting better talent out there.

The word "news" looks dated? I've heard it all now.

I don't see how it's any different to removing "24". Everyone knows it is the news channel/BBC News so it is a waste of design and space to have the word "news". In addition the future is not linear channels. It is the BBC (and a strong BBC brand) as a whole entity producing content. Channels are dated and will be gone some time down the road. That's my two pennies on the current design.The future is now, change or being irrelevant is my thinking.

I'd get that argument if news websites regularly hid the word "news". The only places that I can think of that do it are primarily known for news anyway.

The majority of people know the BBC for news. It was more about the branding having no "NEWS" in the logo. The channel could still have The BBC News identity on the channel ID and a news section on the site.

Chris Mason's live hit into the Six was from the Millbank newsroom with a very wide depth of field blurring the background. It certainly looked like it was live rather than a background on a screen/CSO. Haven't seen that for a long time.

I disagree, I'd argue that people would think of Doctor Who, Strictly, Blue Peter, Radios 1 & 2 and other programmes before thinking of the news department.

But they would (most of them at least) also know it produces news. Especially outside the UK with the world service etc.

Chris Mason's live hit into the Six was from the Millbank newsroom with a very wide depth of field blurring the background. It certainly looked like it was live rather than a background on a screen/CSO. Haven't seen that for a long time.

Just had a look for it on iPlayer - the background is definitely live, as the bottom left monitor in the background is showing the Six (with a seven second delay).

It does feel a little bit too defocused - it's blurrier than the BH newsroom as seen from studio E. I'm guessing last night's occasional torrential rain ruled out use of the balcony or one of the regular DTL positions.
