Maybe they should ditch the News at Ten brand for a Friday, and move it to say 10.30pm permanently and simply have it as ITV News.
Putting the News at Ten title on a bulletin at 10.20pm harks back to the bad old days of the watered down version of News at Ten from 2001-2004, when on a Wednesday it could turn up at 10.45pm and still called News at Ten.

Ultimately though, does it really matter? News at Ten is the brand. No one is that fussed if something pushes it a bit later on a Friday.
I don’t think the papers running a story that the Friday News at Ten now airs 20 minutes later would probably generate the required amount of clicks in this day and age.
Why are they doing it? Fridays tend to rate lower than other days so airing a new drama would be a waste, less dramas available due to the Covid production delays, Gogglebox on Channel 4 is tough competition and airs practically all year round now.

It is a shame they have lost interest on Friday prime time - they used to be reasonable, but of course times have changed and putting on a repeat of a drama after a one hour Corrie is financially viable to them.
BBC One used to be the home of Friday night comedy after Eastenders, and sadly even their prime time Friday is dull, staid, boring and dull.
Googlebox and the brilliant Last Leg are always my first port of call on a Friday now.

TBF rerunning the detective shows on Friday nights used to be a regular thing back in the noughties too, especially during the 10.30 news era. I personally find it more annoying the bulletin is 10 minutes early rather than 20 minutes late.

They did that when they had the news at 11 back in 1999, did they not? So if the preceding programme finished at, say, 10.50, the news would go out then rather than waiting until 11. There's a clip on YouTube - I'll try and find it and embed it here.

Yes, the Nightly News would occassionally run at 10.50pm.

I guess that's less of an issue as "Nightly News" doesn't pertain to a specific time, unlike "News at Ten".

We're going round and round in circles! News at Ten is the brand. That does not mean it has to start at 22:00:00 to be called News at Ten (and indeed the programme was not guaranteed to start at 10pm on the dot even in the old days).
Complaining about News at Ten being called News at Ten if it airs twenty minutes later is a bit like complaining that Tom Bradby says "that's tonight's News at Ten" at about 10:31pm.
Live football tournaments aside, the news starts after 10pm on only one day of the week. I'd love it to be fixed at 10pm five nights a week, but a delay of 20-25 minutes isn't too long and certainly doesn't warrant the News at Ten brand being dropped on Fridays. After 11pm is another story.

I have to take issue with "chevron" comment here - News at Ten is the brand and not the start time - it would be like me saying semi-skimmed milk has nothing what so ever to do with milk.
News at Ten is in the NAME - hint hint! If they really cared about the brand name, then simply have a four night a week News at Ten, and a generic ITV News for a Friday - simple. Keeps the News at Ten branding in place, and does not bring back old memories of the "News at When" fiasco of 2001-2004.

Back in the days before 1999, it kept the News at Ten branding if it went out later, did it not? I am pretty sure this was discussed at the old place, and there was a clip of the late 80s intro with Big Ben showing seven minutes past ten (or similar).

It always seems that ITV have given up on Friday prime time - with the usual half hour Emmerdale and an hour of Coronation Street, before what appears to be the regular repeat of Vera or Endeavour or some other repeat of an ITV drama, before the news starting at 10.20pm.
Why have they chosen this, and has this happened by the back door, using Covid as an excuse? As there seems to be no fuss about it, indeed remember the furore when News at Ten in 2001 would be bounced around the schedules like a football?

yeah, it hasnt been on at 10 on a friday for a year now!
IIRC, it still reverts to 2200 on a Friday during weeks of stripped 1 hour shows at 2100
