The thing with that convoluted name for the 'mega region' is that South East Today would probably have sufficed for a description of the area covered and would have looked a damn sight tidier.

Or just a generic "News Summary" would have done the job.

The title card should’ve had a mixture of place names from the 3 regions. like Tunbridge Wells, Southampton, Croydon, Weymouth etc etc.

It seems strange that there isn't a generic version ready to go, there appears to be a generic "North Today" for use if Salford has to merge with any of the Look Norths

A nice intro from Natalie Graham too who acknowledged that Naz worked for the bulletin in the noughties.

Pan-regional South & South East bulletin from TW tonight, although for some reason I believe the weather hub forecaster got her regions mixed up a bit. While there was the southern half of the BBC South region, plus the South East, London and Luton featured instead of Oxford or Banbury.

It's just clicked with me that the SE region map is a perfect fit for a 16:9 screen!

The name is perfectly fine, it describes what the bulletin is replacing, too long for the astons of course.

That happened a couple of times in the 80s with Southampton doing South and South East bulletins for a couple of summers between Nationwide and Sixty Minutes and then between Sixty Minutes and London Plus. It was just called South Today, but tben there wasn't another name to use

They padded out one of those programmes with a 'Postbag' slot, and on one occasion spent about 5 minutes going through viewer's suggestions for a better name for the show. There was some dire stuff to fill up regional progs back then

Yes. Of course, Keith Floyd's series started life as a feature within Spotlight (or was it Pints West ?)

We've had "Points West & Spotlight" (from Bristol) a couple of times or so in fairly recent years, primarily due to power outage(s) during/after the huge upgrade of BBC Plymouth.

A mega-region stretching from Gloucestershire to Jersey makes the S/SE/London macro seem reasonably-sized!

BBC Plymouth's plans to relocate to a shiny new building at Sutton Harbour eventually died, because the general redevelopment of the Sutton Harbour area hit years of delays following the 2008 global economic downturn.

It must've passed a point where they were barely able to keep Spotlight etc on air with their ancient broadcasting equipment, so they *had* to massively upgrade the existing/long-standing Mannamead site (a converted villa, with a big extension on the side) rather than keep hanging-on to see if Sutton Harbour would ever materialise. I think that the existing extension was all but "knocked-down and re-built", and is now possibly bigger than the original villa to which it is attached!

Spotlight spent something like 12-18 months (or more?) temporarily de-camped to a meeting room (or something). That "temporary" set was eventually repurposed as the "soft area" of the current set in the upgraded proper studio.

Talking about Spotlight Stanley. I think there was a technical issue in September 2014?. I remember it on Iplayer
