It's interesting to see a lot of speculation over who may take over from Piers on GMB. I spent a couple of years working on the programme, and had a lovely time, truth being told- and have been thinking about other replacements over the years that may or may not have been mentioned.

Jeremy Kyle - very unlikely tbh
Mark Austin - doubt he'd make the move back to ITV, but I recall him not loving the early start etc
Tom Bradby - obviously was brought in for election coverage 2015, but I'd suspect doubtful
Bill Turnbull - A classic combination of Bill & Susanna but I doubt there'd be a keenness to recreate BBC Breakfast.
Richard Madley - entertaining but a bit of a novelty but a household name
Eamonn Holmes - A natural, but a bit like Bill, it is very much going back to an older time of GMTV.
Richard Bacon - I left Richard to last with good reason. A bit of a rouge move, but he's a great talker, a very good broadcaster IMO, and if I recall, got a good reception when he covered previously. Not sure where in the world he is living now, but perhaps we could see Bacon at Breakfast again?

I feel that we may see talent coming from another source. Especially if ITV are wanting to replace a journalist like Piers with another. Look to radio...Look at LBC..Eddie Mair or James O'Brien? Just some thoughts...

A name never mentioned, but I think it could work - Krishnan Guru-Murthy. He’s a first rate journalist, who can deliver punchy interviews and sound bites needed for GMB and also handle the soft stuff (see his Ayoade interview). The ideal choice and considering his recent foray on 5Live Morning, he has experience of the daytime shift.

I'd put all those with a more 'liberal' or 'woke' outlook on things as unlikely, as their views would be too similar to Susanna's. I'd argue someone more Madeley/Holmes-esque in terms of opinions would be the natural fit. The show (as it is) wouldn't work with two people both having the same view, the required dynamic just wouldn't be there. IMHO, the show either needs to go with someone who has contrasting views to Susanna or go back to full impartiality.

For me - the latter please IMO the slightly opinionated (within reason of what the regs allow) news programmes should be left to C4/Sky/GBN and the like.

Trouble is the show never used to be all about the presenters opinion it used to be a news show. Especially over the last two years the show has been built around Piers Morgan and his view and presenting style: Now has gone the show is struggling to work out what kind of show it should be. The longer the show drifts and the presenter line up continues to change on a daily basis the more the ratings will fall.

I agree. The "golden" pairing at Breakfast, to my mind, has always been Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams. I seem to remember in spring 2012, the Bill and Susanna pairing only came about because Sian Williams didn't want to move up to Salford. Indeed, when Breakfast returned to London temporarily that summer for the London Olympics, it was Bill and Sian reunited on screen for those few weeks, rather than Bill and Susanna.

A lot has been said about the effect Piers Morgan had on the ratings for GMB, and obviously he did increase viewing figures, but do wonder if he attracted the right demographic. GMB’s ad breaks are full of products aimed at a female audience, particularly those with children.

If Piers act attracted a load of angry men over 50, as I suspect might be the case, it’s not going to be a lot of use to advertisers selling kids’ vitamins or special pants to strengthen your pelvic floor.

He’s clearly raised the profile of the show, so that’s a good thing, but I wonder if his benefit to the show from a business point of view was overstated, and perhaps in a replacement, they should be looking for someone more appealing to the core audience.

I'd be very surprised if the voiceover recordings weren't snippets of things such as "with Kate Garraway" and "and Adil Ray" and it was just a case of selecting 2 "with"s rather than the correct "with" and "and".

My assumption was that the voiceovers were done in parts and then spliced together to allow for weird and wonderful combinations rather than recording every possible grouping, as, on a show with as many possible presenting pairings as GMB, this would take forever and 90% of them would never be used on air.

I have always assumed it's split and pieced together a bit like this...

"Live, from Television Centre in London, this is Good Morning Britain with Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins."

... allowing for putting together appropriate voiceovers for any possible strange partnerships you can sometimes get during school holidays and Bank Holidays with relative speed and ease.

Happy to be proven wrong by someone who knows better.

I wonder if the date is also recorded as separate parts that put together with the individual day, date, month and year or if they are created through long recordings of ‘Thursday 15th April 2021; Friday 16th April 2021’, Etc. for example.

I find the voice-over artist rather weak. Especially compared to his predecessor.
